If you're a software engineer (or know one) I'm doing some research on how you & your team are using AI in your engineering practice.

There's a little survey here that takes about 5-10 mins to complete & the results will get shared with all participants.

My play queue is long and my spare time is short, but I *finally* played through GRIS over the last few weeks.

What a stunningly beautiful and emotive game. We so need more of these.

Also, 😭😭😭

I'm doing a survey on how engineering teams use AI in their work practices. Over 50 orgs have participated but would love a bigger cross section of responses.

If you can take 5 mins to fill it in that would be awesome but a share would be great too!

some time back I built this little border radius visualizer to help figure out how some complex shapes might work- what's interesting (but understood) is how adjustments to specific corners of the element *seem* to affect other corners

Getting some truth bombs from @ghuntley.com at web directions engineering AI this evening.

That's unfortunate. But still pretty cool regardless. Intuitively I know it's not that much data in the grand scheme of things, but it's neat to be able to have it available (for a range of contexts)
ajfisher.social
Can you update it periodically to keep it in sync?
ajfisher.social
The survey is still open, so if you're a developer (or know one) if you can take 5 mins to fill it out, I'd be greatly appreciated (and I'll share the results!).

Maturity around how AI code outputs are reviewed & also development of skills across the whole team means scaling the producivity gains won't be sustainable.

Right now it seams like focus of AI is on use by *individuals* in teams, not how the whole team collectively changes practices.
ajfisher.social
Are engineering teams treating AI as productivity hacks or as a core capability to be developed?

Early data from my AI in dev survey is suggesting teams of all sizes are racing ahead on generation but lacking some of the other practices to make this sustainable.

The survey is still open and I'm still looking for responses. If you're a dev (or know one) then please take 5 mins to provide your thoughts on how you're using AI as part of your software engineering practices.

The report will be released showing how AI is being used by orgs.

Interesting first data from AI & Development survey. Teams that are tiny or large+ show more maturity than their mid-sized counterparts.

Had no idea what to expect when I saw this, but ended up listening to the whole thing. Way better than I thought.

How would you ever think these two songs should / could go together....

Even more weird is the use of phonetics as rationale for why it fails and particular the way lips work when making the sounds.

This is some A-grade post-rationalisation going on here to defend a mistake.
ajfisher.social
I hear you.

As someone working for a NFP whose entire mission is to get high quality and trusted information / content to people in need, it feels like we're about to be strip mined out of existence.

That isn't the web I have spent over half my life helping to build :(

As an aside, I've not seen chatGPT refer to "my head" or "my gut" before. I know this is just a language crutch to be more appealing, but it often avoids embodied / self oriented language in general.
ajfisher.social
After this, I also asked it why it thought there were 3 b's. *Sometimes* you can get cGPT to introspect so thought I'd give it a go. It then went into some phonetics which was a bit long to screenshot but you can read if interested (chatgpt.com/share/689591...).
Asking chatGPT why it thought there were 3 b's in boysenberry and it indicated it did a shortcut....

As an aside suggesting it has a "head" and "gut" was a bit weird
ajfisher.social
So I tried this out as well but with "boysenberry" instead in case it was patched. Results attached.

#ai #chatgpt5 #llms
Asking chat CPT how many B's there are in "boysenberry" and it answers 3. Asking if it is sure about the answer, it then swaps to thinking mode and counts them out and confirmns there are only 2. Just to see if it would latch the answer I asked it if it was still happy with that answer or wanting to confirm which it does (and also tries to crack a joke)

If I were to offer the federal government advice on boosting productivity, it would include:
- boosting spending on childcare and early education
- boosting spending on cycling infrastructure
- encouraging work-from-home arrangements
- investing in the repair economy & circularity broadly

The always awesome @ajfisher.social has a short survey on how and why people are (and are not) actually using generative AI tools in software engineering.

Got 5 minutes? I'm really interest in the results.

When my son was 5, I was woken by almighty yell one morning, followed by him tearing into my bedroom, crying and complaining that, "The 'H' didn't work and now everything is gone".

I didn't have the foggiest idea what he was on about until he showed me....
