Sketches from brilliant solo sets at Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music in the The Lit & Phil ‘Members Library’. First Raymond MacDonald's zesty desire lines, followed by Neil Charles on double bass, with his thrilling Ellington stepping stones. artofjazz.blogspot.com/2025/10/raym...

Thank you. I'm already looking back on those two weeks with great fondness (even though I had difficult moments), I love the way that drawing catches emotions, sense of place, and the narratives of our lives. My next step is to try and string them together in a story and breathe new life into them.
Been busy scanning suitcases of family photos. This is my 2x Great Grandfather, Richard Cadbury Barrow (1827-1894), who was the Mayor of #Birmingham in 1888. His cousin, John Cadbury, transferred the family tea/coffee business to him in 1849, so he could concentrate on the manufacture of chocolate!
Sketches from the iyatraQuartet's uplifting album launch @citylit.bsky.social. My fave song is Beatriz, which was inspired by trobairitz (female troubadour) Beatritz de Dia. It was sung brilliantly in #Occitan by George Sleightholme. More sketches and info here artofjazz.blogspot.com/2025/05/iyat...
Thank you. It was one of the real joys of the trip. Yesterday when I had my last coffee at Le Recepteur I left one of these sketches for the waiter with my tip. Lots of memories wrapped up this set.
No drawing today but here's all the little sketches I did while sitting in the café Le Recepteur. It was a great place to sketch the local characters. Thank you to everyone who offered support over the past two weeks, I've had limited access to the Internet so will go back and read everything #paris
Here's the map. the music on the film is Christine Delaroche – Demain On Se Marie. Thank you everyone for the support over these past 13 days. Until next year. xxx
One last walk very early this morning before I jump on a Eurostar. It included the aftermath of the crazy ice storm yesterday, with leaves everywhere, dead pigeons in the street, Jesus Loves You socks, and one final look at the Eiffel Tower. Walk with me at youtu.be/yZBv43_PqsA #Paris

It threw shadows down the stairwell too. I spent my last night in Paris at Radio France watching a concert about Billie Holiday. Here's the film of me doing it. Music is Laura Ulmer - Moi J'ai Suivi L'Exemple
It's a one person lift here in the building. I get glimpses of the people using it through the little narrow window. There was a big storm today, with hail, and shards of ice that knocked the leaves off the trees and killed a few pigeons. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #lift #voyeur
Here's the map, the music on the film is Laura Ulmer - Les Cover Girls. #Paris #PontMirabeau #walk #guidedushowbusiness
I headed to the Pont Mirabeau this morning, the Seine was flat as a pancake, calm and serene. As usual a typically obscure dip into 1960s showbiz, including the actress who played Tante Georgette in the educational US TV series French in Action. Walk with me youtu.be/1btPehbZGoA #Paris #PontMirabeau

Here's the film of the drawing, music is Violaine - Cousin Kneypper. A late finish so some dinner now and a old film, maybe one that's featured the bridge ( Rififi, Ascenseur pour l'échafaud, Zazie dans le Métro, Last Tango in Paris, Ronin, etc) #Paris #PontdeBir-Hakeim
These two were having so much fun, while everyone else seemed to be getting photos taken on the Pont de Bir-Hakeim their shouts echoed along the whole length of the bridge. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #cycling #freespirit
Here's the map, the music you can hear on the film is the one and only René Urtreger with St Eustache. #Paris
Wandered down to the Seine, the Pont de Bir-Hakeim was beautiful in the dawn light. Then I found the tinkling home of René Urtreger, whose dexterous digits you can hear on the improvised soundtrack for Louis Malle’s 1958 masterpiece Ascenseur pour l’échafaud. youtu.be/vCd7qUmy6CY #Paris

Here's the film of me sketching it, music is virginia vee - je ne veux plus te voir ici
Sweeper on the backstairs in Rue des Vignes. A quiet day here.
I'll cook myself a nice dinner and have a chat with Nat.
Two more full days left, from a difficult start the days now have been flying by. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #mayday #reflection #thinking
It May Day and the they're selling muguet (lily of the valley) on every corner. It's a quieter day today, I'll do my drawing this afternoon, but not sure what to do this evening. Here's the map, music on the film is the wonderful Virginia Vee - Le temps de la bohème
