Landscapes is out today!

Listen while looking out the window of a moving train, on a long walk around the neighborhood, on the porch as a storm rolls in, at home with eyes closed.

Strawberry Mansion has over 500 fans on Letterboxd - wow that’s cool, but no way we deserve more fans than The Cable Guy.

OBEX is Albert Birney once again proving his singular talent for telling the truth through arcane metaphor.

@nadinewhitney.bsky.social reviews his latest film which recently screened at Fantasia Film Festival for the Curb:

Giles Edwards (@gilesforyou.bsky.social) wraps up our coverage of Fantasia International Film Festival 2025 with this third omnibus of late-arriving odds and ends. Some good ones here, like @albertbirney.bsky.social's retro-futuristic "Obex" and the second instalment of the "Mononoke" anime trilogy.

OBEX played Fantasia: Albert Birney’s strange quest leads through a mix of lo-fi media, high fantasy, and surreal horror. A meditation on 8-bit nostalgia, and the competing importance of touching grass, it’s funny, sweet, and kind. It reminded me of I SAW THE TV GLOW. Plus there’s a cute dog!

what’s your favorite film with fewer than 50k logs on Letterboxd? 👀

I’m going with @albertbirney.bsky.social and @kentuckeraudley.bsky.social’s STRAWBERRY MANSION. It’s rare to find a film that radiates as much creativity and positivity as this one does. Their first film, SYLVIO, is also a treat.

And next Wednesday at the Wrigleyville Drafthouse is SYLVIO!

This is the most charming film about a gorilla finding small-town fame as a feature on community access TV.

Directors @kentuckeraudley.bsky.social and @albertbirney.bsky.social did good work here.

two new reviews over at DoomRocket: Albert Birney's OBEX, easily my favorite film from this year's Chicago Critics Film Festival, and Tallulah Hazekamp Schwab's MR. K, two oddball films about finding strength through adversity that I recommend mightily doomrocket.substack.com/p/ccff-2025-...
