The definition of the reflection is lost as the focus point concentrates on the surface disturbances on a small body of water. But this isn't just a single reflection, it is the framed windows of a building reflecting off a water surface, and within that, we can see the reflection of a golden hour sky, lending a warm feeling to the whole somewhat abstract scene. A few weeks back we took a hike along a section of the "66 Lakes" walking route that runs around Berlin. It was a beautiful autumn day, but with a total summer feel. As the sun was starting to wind its way down to the horizon we stopped for one last swim at Petzinsee, just south of Potsdam. Ahead of us an older gentleman already had the same idea, and was venturing out into the lake. I just love the combinations of the rippled water surface, the warm golden light, the wisps of cloud. On a recent hike from Sedding to Potsdam, we stopped and swam in Caputher See. Shortly after we got out, one of our group spotted a snake swimming across the surface of the water. I just about had enough time to grab my camera and squeeze off a few shots, one of which turned out great! Members of Mark Ernestus' Ndagga Rhythm Force in full flow on stage at gART.n. This show was absolutely electrifying and hypnotising and kept us dancing throughout. I was also delighted to spot Mark Ernestus free for a moment and took the opportunity to thank him profusely for all the listening joy his projects have brought me. His previous work with Rhythm & Sound has impacted me hugely, and I recommend it to anyone that hasn't experienced it.

Now that my Mallorca Mondays have wrapped up (for the time being), and given the drawing in of the days and the onset of autumn, I thought it apt to pick the annual Carnival of Cultures in Berlin as the new Monday theme. So tune in every Monday for the foreseeable future to get a vivid bright and colourful image to warm your soul. This year the Carnival relocated from its usual Hasenheide route and instead came to our new neighbourhood - marching straight down Frankfurter Allee.

Bubbling out of the darkness and into the light, a moment of random display which will not be repeated again. Our brains yearn for a pattern to impose upon the seeming chaos. Unusually for an 'intentional camera movement' shot, I was trying my best to hold the camera as still as possible for this shot taken from a moving S-Bahn in Berlin. I think given that the angled lines kept a straight course, I must have done an ok job 😊 Buy Print

Previously I've come across Bougainvillea in Sicily and Kenya. This one was spotted in Mallorca. It appears they do very well across the whole Mediterranean basin. However they originated in South America. You might think this flower has bright pink flowers, but in actual fact the flowers themselves are the very small and dainty looking element at the very centre. The pink things that look like flower petals are actually called bracts and are there to attract pollinators to the plant. Buy Print

With the sun going down, the sky was darkening, but the moon stood out bright and clear, radiating reflected light from our sun - a body in our solar system so massive that we really cannot truly comprehend it. Just to give you some sense of scale - you could theoretically fit 64 million earth moons into the sun. Next time you look at the moon, try to imagine 64 million of them packed closely together - now you've got a rough idea of how tiny we truly are!

The unmistakeable flamingo as it filters food from the water with that uniquely shaped beak, perfectly adapted to its particular niche. These particular birds were photographed at Tierpark in Berlin, where at least the flamingos appear to have a reasonably large area to roam around. Although as they have no net above, one can only assume they've either had their wings clipped or something attached to prevent them from flying away. Buy Print
