Today's update: increasing numbers of last-minute study section cancellations owing to absence in the FedReg. This includes BV (close to home) and BMCD (NCI).

This is yet another example of procedural impoundment and is described well here:

Happy Black History Month! I’m not sure if ASM is celebrating this year, so I’ll share some links to ASM resources I had previously collated on black women in microbiology that are now deleted (or at risk of being deleted). Deleted content can be viewed via the internet archive (links provided).

The journal mSphere published by ASM provides an opportunity to early career scientists to write about studies that have influenced them. I was fortunate to be recommended by Dr. Alfredo Torres. Thank you mSphere and Dr. Torres for the opportunity.

I stumbled across a video my graduate class made for retreat 17 years ago. And it reminded me of the joy and belonging I felt then. Like I’d finally found my people. I often still feel that way. youtu.be/d3tzNjGU0jo

This is a story I’ve watched the Dickson lab develop.

I really did not care about mosquito genetics & climate change research when I started. Now… I still don’t.

But I do care about virus dissemination & this work argues climate change shifts mosquito genetics altering arbovirus ifxn.
