There has been persistent ridging of high pressure in the jet stream and at the surface, certainly at times contributed by the Bermuda High, defecting any rain systems to our north and south. Bermuda high still a factor to some degree but continental ridges are present too.

No surprise to see the drought situation has remained or worsened in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's drought update for the end of August (released yesterday). Many communities in all four Atlantic provinces observed extreme drought conditions. #NSwx #NBwx #PEwx #NLwx
The assessment of drought conditions at the end of August had almost all of the Maritimes region in some form of drought, with an extreme drought (red) now observed in several locations. The unshaded areas in northern Cape Breton correspond to abnormally dry despite the colour not appearing. (Image Courtesy: Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) The assessment of drought conditions at the end of August had much of Newfoundland experiencing drought conditions. An extreme drought (red) was observed on the northern Avalon to parts of the Bonavista peninsula. The unshaded areas in parts of western Newfoundland correspond to abnormally dry despite the colour not appearing. Low pressure is approaching south of Nova Scotia this morning with most of the wet weather offshore. Showers chances will linger, mainly east, and a chance of an isolated shower from a cold front will move into N.B. and P.E.I. Rain/showers into S/E Newfoundland later today. #NSwx #NBwx #PEwx #NLwx
Good Thursday morning, Atlantic Canada.

A trough of low pressure is approaching south of Nova Scotia this morning with a few showers and drizzle mainly along the coast and just off the Atlantic Coast, although a line of some showers has pushed inland into parts of Kings, Hants, Colchester and Pictou counties. Most of this will taper off this morning, but a chance of showers will linger over eastern Nova Scotia. Otherwise, partial clearing farther west in the province with a fair amount of sunshine for New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island too, but in those two provinces a cold front will bring a chance of isolated showers later today. Meantime, the offshore low will develop rain and showers over much of southern and eastern Newfoundland later this morning and this afternoon.
