"Black queer artists aren’t just influences — we are originators. From house to disco to rock ’n’ roll, our sound built the foundations of music. Too often erased — not here, not tonight.

This is a protest rave, a celebration, and a community gathering all at once. Expect talks, performances, food, and a club night that doesn’t just play music of Black origin — it honours the roots and the people who made it possible.

Witnessing at the entrance to DSEI as arms dealers arrive!

A coalition ‘the big one’ are successfully blockading the main entrance to the Excel, causing arms dealers to have to queue around to a back entrance, planting the seed of the idea that there is another way.

In preparation for plans by campaignets to #ShutDSEIDown this Tuesday, it’s essential to know your rights when protesting.

⚠️ SHUT DSEI DOWN
🗓️ 9th September, 8 am
📍 West Gate, ExCeL Centre, London E16

Five key messages: no comment,no personal details, "under what power?", no duty solicitor, no caution

Police tactics and interactions: police can act unlawfully and aggressively, especially towards black and marginalised people. PLOs (blub bibs) are intelligence gatherers - always say no comment. Kettling: no time limit, no food/water guarantee, don't give details unless Section 50. Expect intimidation, lies and divide and rule tactics

Stop and search: stay calm, ask if you're being detained and remember the 4 Ws: WHY are you being searched, WHAT are police looking for, WHO is the officer and WHERE are they based. Do not give personal details and always ask for a receipt

Key legal powers: Public Order Act section 12/14. Section 50 Police Reform Act (antisocial behaviour) Section 60AA Criminal Justice & Public Order Act 1994 (removal of masks), Section 35 (dispersal orders)

Black Calligraphy on white rice paper which reads “Breathe and smile” the words are in written in the centre of a circle. This circle is called an Ensō which is the visual expression of enlightenment and emptiness. Thay would have begun at the bottom middle and drawn clockwise, breathing in and then breathing out at the top of the circle to continue round. In the bottom right corner is a red stamp/seal this is his lineage name and Dharma title, which translates to "Nhat Hanh, the Light of the Middle".
Thays calligraphies act as a “bell of mindfulness” reminding us to arrive in the here and now, and touch the wonders of life.
