I’ve got a podcast! When I watched the nuclear war film Threads at the age of 11 it terrified me and changed my life forever.

I started the pod to speak to other people whose lives have been changed by Threads, from cast and crew members, to extras, broadcasters, authors and super fans. Out now!
I’m sipping Kashmiri Saffron Rose Chai with cashew milk and writing about Godzilla.

I gave up fizzy drinks and sugary cakes some weeks ago. I’m lying in bed with a hot water bottle, a fizzy drink and a sugary cake. NO REGRETS.

Episode 19 of Bang! is out. Our countdown (for season 1) is almost done. Tracks 93 to 97 are big. The Stranglers, Heaven 17, Morrisey, The Sound, Level 42 all feature. As does a film review. And our plans for... erm... Season 2! Join us!

Why are there no audio books of Experience or Rachel Papers by Martin Amis? I’m absolutely scandalised by this omission.

Me on animal testing…

‘But let us extend our compassion further, beyond the abattoir and the racetrack, into the sterile cruelty of the laboratories – those shrines to curiosity without conscience.’

A ban on animal testing is long overdue
Last year alone in Britain there were 2.64 million animal tests in Britain. it's a statistic that shames Britain

It's fascinating. Sean Judge is seriously worth listening to.
The new episode of the Threads pod is out!

This time we hear from Sean Judge who started the Facebook group Threads Survivors.

When he he first watched the film he had months of sleepless nights and threw his VHS copy in the bin. He talks about how Threads inspired him to work with death.

Over the past 10 years I’ve had many, many dozens of articles published about animal cruelty.

But, however hard I’ve tried, I’ve never managed to get one published about animal testing.

Until today. It’s happened.

I don’t yet dare to dream that this day will come. The things I saw when I researched and wrote about vivisection broke me forever. The cruelty is unparalleled. My eyes bled. 💔
