I'm trying out a wee drawing challenge for October! #Objectober is a v chill challenge designed to make drawing inanimate objects fun and also to broaden our use of reference!
if you take part I'd love to see your work!
also I made a website for reference resources: toadrefs.carrd.co
graphic for the drawing prompt challenge #Objectober.
text reads: Objectober
A drawing challenge of THINGS
Prompts
    1. cup
    2. key
    3. cutlery
    4. toy
    5. brush
    6. sharp
    7. soft
    8. wheel
    9. weight
    10. worn
    11. crown
    12. lamp
    13. tool
    14. loud
    15. orb
the image is decorated with drawings of everyday objects (clothes peg, scissors, stool, beaker, lamp, spoon, pull along toy) with little arms and legs. graphic showing the rules of the challenge. test reads: rules:
    • make some art about objects! Any kind, style and interpretation is good! If you’re stuck, there are some bonus challenges to give you some ideas.
    • You do not have to hit all the prompts. Take it easy!
    • using reference is encouraged! Using AI references is NOT. I made a list of some handy reference sites I found, which you’re welcome to use: toadrefs.carrd.co graphic titled "Bonus Challenges"
text reads: Stuck for inspiration? Try these!
    • Draw each object being held or used
    • Each object is found in the room or pack of a single character. What story do they tell?
    • Each object is a museum exhibit. What do they tell us about the people that made them?
    • Draw each object broken
    • Combine two prompts and draw an object that works as both
make the objects into little creatures
use real objects to design a character
a pencil and a hairbriush, both with little legs, decorate the image.

I wrote a massive TTRPG setting guide encyclopaedia about the ancient Scotland and the Picts who lived in it. It covers everything scholars currently know about life in the 7th century, from landscapes to kingdoms to faith, magic, settlements, and so much more.

Check it out!

📖 We have a new resource up on our website for anyone working in small press in Scotland, whether that's comics, tabletop games, zines, prose, poetry, or other non-traditional publishing.

Colour me unsurprised but no less disappointed 🙄

pretty shameful that after supposedly implementing anti AI policies for vendors, fan frontier seems to be using AI in their own imagery. Would be interested to know if the artist commissioned to design these mascots is aware their client has done this!
www.forthefans.uk
screenshot from a site called "was it AI" that aims to check the likelihood an image was made using genAI. an image from the fan frontier website (a landscape with distant mountains, flowering cherry trees, and two cartoon mascots in the foreground) has been run through it, and the site shows that "we are quite confident that this image, or significant part of it, was created by AI. screenshot from a site called AI image detector that aims to check the likelihood an image was made using genAI. an image from the fan frontier website (a landscape with distant mountains, flowering cherry trees, and two cartoon mascots in the foreground) has been run through it, and the site shows that "this image is likely AI generated" with a 100% probability shown in the analysis.

I've learnt a lot while I've been out here but the biggest takeaway I have is that being a kind, considerate and grateful guest in another country is becoming a rarity and it makes me sad.

Anyway, I'll be back to work next week. See you guys soon💜🦙

There's a lot I could say about the exploitative nature of the park itself, that the deer are an attraction but from my perspective tourists in general (particularly from the UK,US) treat everything like it's for the own entertainment without thinking about how their actions affect what's around.
alpacascribbles.bsky.social
I cannot tell you the number of people I've seen trying to get the deers attention, touching them or sometimes aggressively pushing them away or trying to kick them. It's breaks my heart. The deer wander up to people thinking they have a snack for them and are being treated sometimes with cruelty.

We bookended our trip in Nara, famous for the deer park. The Deer free roam around which is quite charming and you can pay to feed them little crackers as an activity. For the most part, guests are encouraged not to touch the deer or interact with them unless they have the crackers.

I've been in Japan for the last two weeks! It's been an amazing trip however, there is one thing that I have to talk about or I'm going to explode and it has everything to do with other tourists visiting the country.

Are in in Edinburgh tomorrow, fancy checking out some cool artists? Head to Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Leith where myself and so many other cool artists will be selling our works!!

One of the many ideas I've kept in the back of my mind is a fakémon zine and maybe this would be on the many mons in my fake region. I'll name them when I have a good idea😅

This AMAZING piece was gifted to me by the very talented @alpacascribbles.bsky.social
I have only cried with joy a couple of times in my life and this was one of them. It is beautiful and I love all of the details, the relaxing green tones, the dappled light on Ven's scales, the ripples. I love it!
Ven the alligator (black and white) floating on the water with Taberu (brown tanuki/japanese raccoon dog) sitting on his back with a basket of fish beside him and a fishing rod with a line cast into the water. You can see the roots of the mangrove trees below the water with bright light shining through the trees from the left.
