I went to school in a very conservative part of eastern ontario so i pretty much lost touch except for some of the other queer ppl from my HS. and yeah random friend requests over the years. so for me it's more people I vaguely knew through music stuff in my 20s or from university.

in the case of the WEVD in house dude Nicholas Saslavsky he died in 1965 so I guess it'll be fair game in 2035? 🥺 but to your point yes there are so many "orphaned" amazing works that are boxed away surely through no choice of the composers or arrangers.

there's an English language discussion about the production of the podcast happening on January 20, which is how I heard about it. although it starts quite early in my time zone so I may not be awake enough to appreciate it.

my 101 level command of Dutch is definitely not good enough to listen to a podcast, but this may be of interest to someone on here. apparently there's a podcast about the life of the great Indonesian socialist and intellectual Sutan Sjahrir, of which 2 out of 4 episodes are out so far.
sadly just got a rejection email from NYPL saying this is still in copyright and they can't scan it for me. I could probably somehow talk my way into getting it but it does make me realize that basically none of their in house arrangements are freely orderable for musicians.
my choir is doing shtetl wedding themed pieces for an event next year (lol) so I also ordered "Wedding Fantasie"

their VST only goes down to C3 even though a real instrument has a full octave below that. meaning the VST can't play actual full cimbalom arrangements... FWIW in the ranges it does have, it certainly sounds very nice.

I bought this on sale a few Boxing Days back to make my occasional music arranging sound nicer while I work on it in Dorico (even though I have a real cimbalom here in my bedroom). but one of its major failings for this purpose is that for some reason the VST is missing the instrument's lower range😪
