How rare is the Strait of Hormuz for US vessels? I did 28 ocean crossings, including some with Sealift to upgrade my license to Master of unlimited tonnage. I've done several more as Master (captain) and I have never transited that Strait. In fairness, I didn't move oil. But it's low, < 15/month.

I'm not really satisfied with this. Iran has long been dangerous to merchant ships, but that danger has increased since Trump took office. There's not a lot of US flagged vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Better guidance would be to schedule the transit with US Navy and meet an escort ship.

Maxwell says she'll clear Trump's name in exchange for clemency. Trump hasn't been charged with a crime related to Epstein (yet). But if he issues her a pardon in exchange for a personal favor, then he will be committing a crime. It'd also be a crime outside the scope of his Presidential Immunity.

If the word Florida appears on these English only exams, someone should sue the state for not making it English only.
Spanish-speaking drivers react to Florida's shift toward English-only license exams
In Miami-Dade, nearly 34,000 people signed up for appointments in February, and about 67% requested the Spanish-language exam.

I've got $100 that says when most Canadians are traveling and asked where they're from they don't say America.
Iconic moment as he says "God Bless América" and then names every country in South, Central, and North america in order

For the rest of the hemisphere, América doesn't mean the U.S.

It means evveeerrybody

It seems to be pretty common thing. They get people from Indonesia, the Philippines and other places. They don't pay them, they're just "stuck" on a fishing boat. And if they refuse to work, the lucky ones get a bullet in the head before being thrown overboard. A lot of that food is in our markets.

I was bringing a vessel from Peru to Cali years ago and west of Ecuador there was a body in the water. Contacted authority on radio, they told us to take pictures, note drift and GPS and to hold position (it takes a mile to stop). We did all that. Guy was shot. Illegal Chinese fishing fleet nearby.

I'm a weird traveler. My spouse is a more typical traveler. Most people, like her, want to visit cities. We went to Spain over the summer. I had zero interest in Madrid. When we went to France, I had no real interest in Paris. I like getting into the rural areas, the back roads and meeting real ppl.

The unfortunate news is that most of America doesn't look like a golf course. It looks like crops and livestock. Maybe a farmer down the road thinks "Trump and I don't like brown folk." But the reality is Trump doesn't like ag folk, period. He's never done an honest day of hard work in his life.
February 9, 2026 at 6:06 AM
Everyone probably has a slightly different perception of what Trump is saying here. But here is mine: I come from a place that ruled by agriculture. It isn't Puerto Rico, but farm work is farm work. Trump saw something representative of farm work instead of gilded walls and he didn't see America.
