hey anyways totally unrelated to the current staff meltdown on here, we're in the process of revitalizing Website League (believe it or not it is our 1 year anniversary already; we've been active that whole time) and now is actually a great time to get involved

this is essentially a distinction without a difference past a certain point, they are also definitely hoarding money that could alleviate poverty and inequality, and there is no ethical way to be a billionaire anyways—so yeah

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

i don't say this lightly but Minecraft Movie 2 has serious potential to be both among the worst movies ever made AND among the most holistically slop movies ever made

(in fact, even otherwise consistently left-wing European parties tend to balk at things liberal and leftist Americans just take for granted ideologically here. for example: the Swedish left is almost wholly anti-sex work because of their feminist movement over there

there is—to my knowledge—no consistent analogue to the level of social freedom most Americans politically take for granted in Europe (even now); social liberalism in Europe seems to mostly be the bugbear of classical liberals and right-libertarians who join it at the hip to dogshit economic policy
alyazabirze.bsky.social
"the Democrats would be a center-right party in America" people realize that until very recently the consensus on abortion in Europe was worse than literally every US state, and that it's still backwards relative to the US on nearly every social issue besides guns, right

(assuming, of course, everyone currently employed continued to be employed, which is a bad assumption to make because capitalists hate paying people shit)

the dumbest part of this plan is that in purely qualitative terms it would be an improvement over the current workweek for nearly everybody *and* probably one of the largest wealth transfers in world history since the minimum possible yearly salary for a worker would be like $72,000/yr
alyazabirze.bsky.social
it's time for a Democrat to campaign on the 4-20-69 plan: a 4-day, 20-hour workweek with a $69/hr minimum wage plus benefits

thank you sir, it's a real honor to be acknowledged for our work in this space

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

ball knowers will also recall that even the threat of something like this happening within the FAA helped end the last big shutdown. we'll see if that repeats

really good chance that if anything forces the issue and ends the government shutdown, it'll be this. we are generously like two weeks away from having a de facto, country-wide no fly zone right now because there won't be the staffing to safely land planes

There will not be enough air traffic controllers in the tower at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, the FAA is warning.

Now on the seventh day of the government shutdown, the same scenario is playing out at FAA offices across the country, with ripple effects hitting flights almost everywhere.

the actual infrastructure needed to make (non-sexual) furry small business viable is here. if you want to produce furry wares in bulk, you can do that for a lot of things now—and that progression and professionalization is not going to slow down, because why would it? it's increasingly profitable
alyazabirze.bsky.social
take fursuits as the obvious example: there's a real limit on the number of fursuits any one person can make by hand per year, and at some point if demand continues the delta between "profit made from hand-creation" and "profit from semi-industrialized/mass production" will likely drop to nothing
alyazabirze.bsky.social
i think a lot of furries don't realize this—understandably—but capital-B Brands are inevitable in furry subculture unless explicitly anti-capitalist organizing happens? most furry artists are artisans, but they're not going to be that forever, especially if demand continues to grow for their work
alyazabirze.bsky.social
it could probably be more "electorally democratic" if you will than it currently is, but in terms of governing structure "guaranteed representation if your node wants it (unless there's some reason we have to remove/block you)" is a fairly easy to administer step that has given us few problems
alyazabirze.bsky.social
this is (more or less) the model of the Website League yes—better website still incoming i promise, we're on the precipice of the "how do we test deploy this, then deploy it for real" stage—and for the first year we've found this to work pretty well as a structure
kozufox.bsky.social
I've had a whacky idea for a while of a fediverse type environment, but the site admin and moderation are modeled on democratic confederalism.

Each instance would be autonomous, but they wouldn't just be fending for themselves, and they'd have input on the direction of the overall project.
alyazabirze.bsky.social
the AI stuff i think speaks for itself but purely on a mechanical level, is it... even a good idea to outsource this in the way they seem to be doing
alyazabirze.bsky.social
i just think a lot of the theorem here is needlessly overcomplicated, when what's happening could also just be summarized as "the same negative, homogenizing, sociotechnical processes that are playing out in other fandoms and subcultures, and on people who use social media as a whole"
