Definitely. This move sadly has parallels with the cancellation of the Frasier reboot at Paramount+ even though “low ratings” is the official excuse. One actor had a cancer scare halfway through S1 and they had to fight to avoid recasting or a shut down in S2. Of course they never saw an S3.
