This is disgraceful. Federal agents holding up clergy at rifle point for inquiring about their enforcement actions on church property. We are seeing the demise of democracy -- and of religious freedom -- before our eyes.
Per the NYTimes, a Disciples of Christ pastor confronted agents (presumably ICE) in front of her church as they detained a man.
When the pastor shouted instructions in Spanish at the man as he was detained, an agent pointed a gun at her.

Bishop Mariann is an example to all faith leaders and to all Americans of the value of separation of religion and government. The independence of the church gives space to speak truth of power. We will only become an authoritarian country if we act like we already live in one.

I’m in Austin today to advocate against a troubling Bible-infused curriculum. Those pushing it are clear about their aims, holding a rally complete with shofars and the Christian flag. These are symbols of #ChristianNationalism, which merged Christian & American identities.
