New York’s issues aren’t my city’s issues, and I won’t engage in any kind of discussion that wants to treat Mamdani’s example as something that needs to be carbon copied rather than something that can be studied and iterated on.

As a complete outsider to New York and its politics: Mamdani is presenting a strong campaign with clear goals and messaging to the issues that affect what would seem to be the majority of New Yorkers. He’s a strong example of how the left can make its arguments.

And tbh, I think making sure monocolor legends with hybrid trigger or activation costs brings these cards more in line with abilities like Extort, where you get more value out of them in multicolor builds, but are still usable if you’re only accessing its main color.

Extort is actually an example as to why the hybrid change makes sense. If extort’s cost contributed to color ID, then you’d be unable to play any card with extort if your colors didn’t include Black and White.

This change would make designs like Agrus Kos, Eternal Soldier viable in monocolor builds

Extort’s reminder text uses the hybrid symbol.

More reminder text would refresh how hybrid mana works mechanically using {W} and {B} symbols.

But that wouldn’t make Blind Obedience a black card, the same way Trinisphere isn’t a black card. Mana symbols in reminder text dont contribute to color ID

The rural/urban tension is a false one. Southern states are systemically weighted toward christofascist goals. Thats an uphill battle, not an unwinnable one

Boros Recruit might mechanically be White [AND] Red at all times, but that hybrid mana cost has an [OR] built into it that I don’t think should be overridden just because you can target it with Blue Elemental Blast.

I’ll say it:

Hybrid cards should’ve been allowed in Monocolor commander decks from the start, and treating them the same as gold cards in Commander was the lazy route for the RC to walk when hybrid mana got introduced.

They solved the issue when mana symbols in rules text helped set color ID
