Can I wish all those across the border a very happy Lancashire Day. It marks the day in 1295 when Lancashire first sent representatives to Edward I’s Model Parliament — a moment often taken as the county’s earliest voice in national affairs. It was first celebrated in 1996.

Back to my family tree last night & time to add more detail to my Smith side which has been neglected for so long. I started with my 3rd great uncle Robert Smith who I have identified 8 children for & living in Woolwich. Surprisingly in 1851 he was a builder employing 15 people. 🌳

The Turks Head pub, Old Cawsey, Sowerby Bridge, W. Yorks. It was originally a packhorse inn & existed in the 1850's. By 1921 it was a Joseph Stocks pub. Joseph Stocks was acquired by Samuel Webster & Son in 1932-3.

The Great Chamber at St. Nicholas Priory, Exeter. A broad stone staircase leads up to the room in which the medieval Priory's guests would have been fed. After the Reformation this probably served as a great chamber. The upper end of the hall, where there may have been a /1

Left is the view from the top of the stairs with shafts of light lighting up the stairway & right a stained glass window marking the completion of restoration & the start of its use as a museum. "Affectionate Remembrance" of James Baxendale Hodgson & his wife Elizabeth Pilkington at Wakefield Cemetery. James was a stuff merchant of Kirkgate, Wakefield who died 23rd September 1869 & his wife Elizabeth Pilkington died 5th June 1892. /1

St. Nicholas Priory, The Mint, Exeter is one of the oldest buildings in Devon. A small monastic community was formed here in around 1087 who were part of the Benedictine order. The Priory's purpose was hospitality to visitors, teaching & charity to the poor. The monks slept /1

At the north end of the great chamber of St. Nicholas Priory, Exeter there is a smaller chamber. It is likely to have been used for sleeping, eating & business. This was reconstructed in the later medieval period. The roof, walls, garderobe & adjacent window are from this /1
