En España, this gesture means “a lot”.

I asked someone from Mexico and they understood it as something like “don’t be a coward”.

Do you know any other meanings in Spanish for this gesture?

100%!

Like "I want" and "I should"...

How we speak matters A LOT!
Change "can't" to "won't" when it comes to setting boundaries.

There is a striking difference between "I CAN'T handle you being disrespectful" and "I WON'T tolerate you being disrespectful".

When you allow others to cross a boundary, then you haven't made a boundary.

You've made a request.

Alright! Despacito, pero… the big switch from Google services to other services continues.

First the writing tools to Libreoffice.

Now moving all comms to Protonmail.

Then, I‘ll start moving away from Wix (I need to double check but I saw some things I didn’t like).

There's a tiny mistake in this cool drawn meme in Spanish, can you find it?

I was trying to sort out some sort of problematic DNS so I could connect my domain with ProtonMail and I seem to have screwed up and my website is down 😭

Doing everything can be rewarding, but also stressful af sometimes.

Now to wait 48h to see if I managed to fix it.

POPULATE IT ALREADY

I subscribed to this newsletter by a Spanish teacher who is very good at what they do… but omg, the attitude in how they write and the overall tone is incredibly exhausting.

Does it make sense?

Compralo por mí means "buy it in mi place" "instead of me"

Compralo para mí means "buy it for me", as in, "you buy it so I can have it"

It's ok, also since we're doing it in public it may help someone else, which is what I like :)

Claro, because in "compralo para mí" I am the goal.

In "compralo por mi" we could say I am creating an abstract space, which is meant to be me, and you are kind of stepping inside and acting as me.

Por & Para, a small thread.

Understanding the logic vs. Usage lists, won't use up brainpower in recall.

POR tends to create a radius, and introduces something within it.

PARA tends to create a goal, a target, and introduces something going towards it.

when i say these confused the hell out of me 😂😂 like i get in but i was also like whaatttt. so “para” = directional like “para mi jefa” but por for “inside of a radius” like “por el día “ but i say “para mañana” which is even more confusing 😂 but thanks. i’ve learnt some things better. e.g somos.

You got it.

Para mañana
Something is due/ happening tomorrow (the goal post)

Para la mañana
For the morning time

Por la mañana
Within the morning, within that radius

Por el día
Within the day/ sunny hours, which is the radius.

Youuuu got this!

Good advice!

I’d like to also add: think in Spanish (to the best of your ability).

It really doesn’t get much easier than that!

Try fetching any Spanish you know, name things around you, describe what you see… but make a habit of thinking in your target language.
I'm sick of hearing: "I want to learn Spanish, but I don't have time."

Here are 3 micro-habits that any busy working professional can incorporate in their schedule to learn Spanish:

“puente” means “bridge”, but it is also the time where a bank holiday or an official (short) holiday joins a weekend, making it longer.

While POR tends to be used for reasons or “what’s inside of a radius”. If we imagine “ahora” as a specific chop of our timeline, we are somewhere inside that chunk we call “ahora”.

If you are starting, don’t worry too much about understanding these yet.

Subió el cartero chivato con la poli.
Mi padre se llama como yo, y pensaban que la carta era para él. Tuve que decir que la carta era mía.
Era una respuesta a un informe de recepción.

#BookSky I’ve got a rec!

I am reading my neighbour’s book, Written in Blood.

True Crime (if applicable) is not my jam, but the forensic’s perspective on real cases, the history and evolution of related science (blood types, testing…), is as interesting as it is graphic (includes photographies).
