Holiday season is about balance. I balance the long and cold nights out with a fridge full of tamales to reheat or just eat like a snickers bar in the middle of the night

The people who profited most from the cancel culture/free speech panic were less interested in actual freedom of speech than establishing their own control over public discourse. You don't even have to take my word for it. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Oh yeah Global TV (in Canada or by VPN) has the full uncut 60 Minutes story on its 60 Minutes rebroadcast. CBS must have sent them the original tape.

You couldn’t make Do the Right Thing today. Title is too polarizing and is virtue signaling

The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

Gen Z kids asked me why Gen X is always going on about drinking from the hose and came to a detente. They understand that the point is we weren’t let in ppl’s houses. I also unpacked “why do olds tell us to build a fort?” We had no place that was “ours” to be in that had a roof.

This time of year I like to remember a weird Xmas party in sactown that had a shrimp cocktail tray and I watched a kid picking up the discarded tails and eating them. I tried to direct him to the platter with whole shrimp but he wouldn’t listen.

One way to look at today’s action is that if you’re famous enough you get a free antisemitism if you pretend to be too dumb to know it’s antisemitism.

Stop coddling athletes. They are public figures who know or should know what they are doing before they do it.

Life was better without social media because busy bodies were forced to sit in their garages listening to the police scanner to get info. Contained them at least.

To make a call one area code over id buy a prepaid card for 10 cents a minute and have to enter correctly a super long numeric code properly to make it work
Tangential, but no one under 40 will ever understand what a big deal long distance phone calls used to be. Expensive in the US and a genuine ordeal for overseas. As late as 1986, ATT could only handle 25 US-UK phone calls simultaneously. 25!
