The epitranscriptome formed by the growing number of modifications occurring within mRNA transcripts.

We have been mapping mRNA modifications for over a decade.

=> Characterizing their functions -- especially on translation -- is a research frontier.

Congratulations Monica! And to the CRG for recruiting you.
Happy to be the next (and 1st female) @crg.eu director. The CRG always stood out to me, for its excellence in understanding life's principles, with implications for health and biodiversity, & its collaborative, open and innovative way of doing science. Thrilled to join its amazing community in 2026!

Until our crystal ball can tell us exactly what we'll discover before we start looking, we always need to remain open to curiosity-driven research opportunities and to the value of improving our fundamental understanding of the body, diseases, potential treatments and society.
The research sector stands united: the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions must stay bottom-up. No political direction — MSCA already delivers on Europe’s priorities! 👇
EU-LIFE, @coimbragroup.bsky.social, @yerunnetwork.bsky.social & many EU research organisations urge EU to keep #MSCA 's bottom-up approach.

MSCA’s success lies in its openness to all fields & topics. Thematic restrictions would stifle innovation & limit researchers' opportunities.

This is so comforting to see!
I wrote a new piece on how much progress has been made in treating childhood leukemia.

The answer is: quite a lot!

Before the 1970s, fewer than 10% of children diagnosed survived 5 years after diagnosis.

Now most are cured and around 85% survive that long.
