NEW Finds from 13,200–10,700 cal BC Eşek Deresi Cave in the Central Taurus Mountains 🇹🇷
The material culture shares features from both Central Anatolia and the Levant, indicating Epipalaeolithic connections via the Taurus Mountains.

These are some lovely flint figurines made ~9,000-years-ago by #Neolithic people at Kharaysin, 🇯🇴

Their variation could mean that each figurine is depicting a different person 🏺 AncientBluesky

✨💡 Shining light on dark matter… but plot twist: it’s about obsidian, not astrophysics! Thanks to confocal microscopy and 3D texture analysis, we are unlocking the hidden stories of use-wear on experimental obsidian tools 🧐🔬

In our paper, we explore the potential of integrating this technique with the qualitative analysis of #use-wear, demonstrating how a combined qualitative and quantitative approach allows us to achieve a further level of detail in the interpretation of ground stone tools’ use in plant processing 🌾🔬

An informative poster detailing a session at a conference focusing on the study of obsidian in archaeology. The text emphasizes the significance of lithic industries in understanding past societies, highlighting obsidian as a key material for toolmaking in regions with volcanic rocks. It outlines the session’s aim to unite researchers specializing in various analytical methods, including technological, typological, and functional analyses of obsidian. Key themes include core reduction techniques, tool typology, experimental archaeology, use-wear studies, data standardization, and the material’s procurement and circulation. The goal is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and broaden perspectives in lithic studies.
