The Linux installers got revamped recently, and it is probably the best way to experience those games on modern systems: github.com/OldUnreal/Fu...

For Unreal, UT99, and soon UT2004, you can point to OldUnreal.com, which still maintain those games to this day. They are endorsed by Epic, and offer full game installers for Linux, macOS and Windows; with support for modern rendering methods (Vulkan, DX11 on Windows, etc.), 64-bit on Linux...

Any feature that risks affecting user privacy, or was built on ignoring intellectual property rights of authors and artists, must be opt-in.

You can put a banner on the first launch to ask users to opt-in, but if Mozilla truly cares about their user's digital rights, that's what they need to do.
December 17, 2025 at 10:34 PM
Why not an opt-in instead of an opt-out? If Mozilla really wants to live by their "From trustworthy tech to policies that defend your digital rights, we put you first โ€” always." statement that's on their front page, AI would require an explicit opt-in.

@hankgreen.bsky.social if you are interested in testing that theory, you can request an archive of your data from X. In it, you'll have an account-creation-ip.js file that will contain the IP you had when you created your account. You can then geolocate that on MaxMind's website.
November 27, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Alternatively, it could be geolocating every single tweet and getting the most common result; but again, it is possible the ISP you were using for the majority of your tweets has since sold that IPv4 block to a Japanese ISP, which would result in a JP result.
November 26, 2025 at 8:29 PM
What I think X has done, is use MaxMind's GeoIP DB to geolocate the IP you had when you registered your account in 2009.

MaxMind's DB is a snapshot of the current IPv4 address block assignments. It is possible that your ISP has sold that particular block to a Japanese ISP between 2009 and today.

I wasn't expecting to wake up to the news that a new #Stargate series is in the works. With the original writers too!

Stargate is very much my favorite franchise, and I'm so excited for the new show!

It's also not due to Secure/Measured Boot. Both are available on Linux, and if demand is there, distros I'm sure will happily start signing their kernel releases.

The reality is that some game publishers simply don't want to deal with Linux. That's on them, and if the market shifts, so will they.
November 17, 2025 at 8:02 PM
We can have a long discussion about why publishers are making the decisions they are making, but I have a hard time to believe the anti-cheat angle. Plenty of titles are available on Linux with anti-cheat and don't have rampant cheating (Embark Studios, BHVR, etc.).
November 17, 2025 at 8:02 PM
Minecraft Java Ed. is well supported on Linux. It's native.

The Bedrock Edition requires workarounds, but the large majority of the Minecraft community will tell you that it is inferior anyway.

As for the other games, we are talking about deliberate choices by the developers of those titles.

This is just one example of #Microsoft total disregard for consumer rights and privacy. #Windows is being enshitified with AI, and cloud features consumers do not want. I'm currently writing a blog post about it, and why I no longer recommend Windows to friends and family. Switch to macOS or Linux.

The #ACCC announced they were suing #Microsoft due to their misleading bundling of Copilot into Microsoft 365 plans.

It's nice living in a country that actually cares about consumer rights.

This is going to be a very unproductive call to my mobile provider's level 1 support person. I'm unable to find the contact info for routing issues at TPG.
October 13, 2025 at 10:00 AM
TPG Telecom's IPv6 routing to @wikipedia.org has been broken for the past 2 weeks at least, with traffic being routed back and forth between Adelaide and Sydney.

Both my and @porcelainmai.bsky.social's mobile are unable to connect to Wikipedia.

I read articles like this one, and I'm glad I'm not a #Windows person.

Forcing an online account is unacceptable. #Microsoft needs your personal info to feed their AI machine, and I look forward to the bubble bursting for their leadership to get their comeuppance.

The other major issue I see is that most students have no way to validate that the information that the AI is giving them is accurate.

You have very little prior knowledge at that age, and providing them with access to a tool that is known to hallucinate seems like a recipe for disaster.
