We have a finite amount of time to spend thinking while on this earth and I am very resentful of how much of it has been monopolized by the whims of a demented old real estate scumbag

The Norwegian Nobel Prize committee has been forced to make a statement, declaring that the prize cannot be transferred.
It's hard even to comprehend how stupid this has become

every country in central and South America has their own very specific answer to the question “When has the United States ever engaged in imperialism”
KERNEN: Europeans are talking about it almost being like Vladimir Putin and Ukraine.

JEFF LANDRY: I disagree. When has the United States engaged in imperialism? Never. Europe has engaged in imperialism. The reason the Danish have Greenland is because of imperialism.

Spare a thought for our society's hard-working satirists, who I suspect are currently despairing that no parody/joke they can ever invent could possibly keep up with the unhinged farce happening on the world stage at the moment.

Almost every story I read about genAI makes me want to kick out the plugs. “But it’s here to stay!” “But I’ve found this positive use for it!” Bully for you. Just turn it off until we can regulate it properly so it doesn’t give dangerous health advice, tell people to kill themselves or generate CSAM

Despite getting more books for Christmas, I've just ordered two more. And we're not even two days into the New Year. Oh dear. 😂

I genuinely think that there's a growing part of me that's rapidly losing trust in online resources and just wants a nice big physical library that no AI can tamper with.

Random Fact About Me:

I have double jointed elbows and can bend my arms backwards to enough of a degree that it physically disturbs many new people that I meet. 😀
Post a random fact about yourself:

I can only parallel park if listening to Whenever, Wherever by Shakira.
If you see this post a random fact about yourself:

I don’t play D&D but a published campaign has a particular geographic feature because the illustrator smudged their map and I suggested incorporating the smudge

Hard to narrow it down to just one music video, but I have a soft spot for Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity". 💙🎶

So I'm finally making the permanent move over here from the... dead bird site. Huzzah! Really need to start posting more often.

So for anyone new; I'm Andrew, I live on a diet of coffee, political satire and Britpop.

You can usually find me playing with steam engines, trains or fairground organs.

When it comes to the police/detective drama series that I'm watching at the moment, I'm definitely in my 'brooding, solitary, intellectual, softly-spoken widower' era.

An evening of Michael Kitchen in "Foyle's War" or Bertie Carvel in "Dalgleish". Perfection ❤️

This. To all my trans friends ... you are real, you exist, you are valid and you matter. ❤️🏳️‍⚧️
if you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.

A fascinating look at Norwich's hidden past today at 'The Shoebox Experience' under Castle Meadow! Always interesting to learn more about local history and see somewhere new! I'd reccomend this tour to anyone who likes Medieval History.

Genuinely feeling like a technological god after successfully resurrecting the museum's Sum Up machine from its winter hibernation. 💳

It's especially satisfying after the Curator told me yesterday that it wasn't working. 😂

Quite enjoying Brian and Maggie on Channel 4. I'm far from an expert on British politics in that era, so I can't comment on historical accuracy, but it's rather entertaining TV and I think Harriet Walters has got pretty close with Mrs Thatcher's voice. #BrianandMaggie

The BBC commentators were noting that Melania was wearing a hat, and now we see why. A clever use of a wide brim to prevent unwanted kisses on the cheek.
