It's me. Utah Jazz & NBA beat writer for The Salt Lake Tribune. Oh, and now I also write a data column once a week for the Trib
Will Hardy said he told Isaiah Collier he'd be playing 48 minutes in the first quarter.

"You obviously wouldn't want to do that a bunch of nights in a row, but tonight with the players that were available, it felt like a good opportunity for Isaiah to just roll."

Jazz beat Pacers 131-122. One of the weirder games I've ever seen in person.

Isaiah Collier: 48 minutes, 17 points (6-16 FG), 22 assists, 2 turnovers.
Lauri Markkanen: 27 points. Brice Sensabaugh: 20 points.
Jaren Jackson Jr.: acquired.

See you in Atlanta Thursday!

20 assists now for Isaiah Collier! That's the highest by any player in the NBA this season.
February 4, 2026 at 2:03 AM
Isaiah Collier is up to 13 assists tonight and we're still in the 3rd quarter... 15 is the most for a Jazz PG since Deron Williams (Trey Burke in 2014). Just one turnover as well.

Jazz and Pacers tied 56-56 at the half. Jazz are playing with just seven players tonight, but Pacers have only 9 healthy bodies themselves, and probably less-heralded players. Jazz just 2 games behind the Pacers in the tank race.

Talked to Lauri Markkanen and Keyonte George about what they thought about the Jaren Jackson Jr trade before the game:

Jaren Jackson, Jr trade is now official.

I think it's a really, really good trade for the Jazz so long as all of the following are true:

- The Jazz are able to tank and keep their pick this year
- All of UTA/CLE/MIN are reasonably good next year
- JJJ plays at a higher level than he has this season

Without Nurkic Jazz would only have 8 active players tonight so I get it
February 3, 2026 at 7:59 PM
Jazz say Jusuf Nurkic (illness) has been upgraded and is available to play tonight.
February 3, 2026 at 7:51 PM
Kyle Anderson and Kevin Love have been added to the Jazz's injury report with illness. Anderson is questionable, Love is doubtful.
February 3, 2026 at 3:41 PM
Nets beat the Jazz 109-99.

A relatively significant loss for the Jazz, as it puts them within 1 game of the Nets for 5th in the tank race. If they were to pass the Nets, the Jazz would have a 99.4% chance of keeping their pick after the lottery.

Jazz PR confirms Keyonte George will not return due to a left ankle sprain... less than a minute left anyway.
January 31, 2026 at 4:48 AM
Egor Demin looks *terrific*
January 31, 2026 at 4:45 AM
Also, that Ace Bailey dunk earlier this quarter was pretty incredible... there are just not that many guys in the league who could do that.
January 31, 2026 at 4:33 AM
There are things Isaiah Collier does well but he's so rough in half court situations on offense and defense that it's really hard to see how it would translate to the playoffs even with significant improvement
January 31, 2026 at 4:31 AM
Nets up 54-52 on the Jazz at the half. Good little comeback there at the end after some sketchy shot selection to start 2Q. Keyonte George has 19 points, so does Cam Thomas.
January 31, 2026 at 3:37 AM
BTW, talked to Elijah Harkless today, who says he'll return in about a couple of weeks from his hamstring injury.
January 31, 2026 at 3:08 AM
Was not the best tennis match I've ever seen but some truly remarkable points and just incredibly inspiring effort from Alcaraz to do that while cramping. And Zverez is a bit of a choker, yeah.
January 30, 2026 at 9:17 AM
Jazz now have 9 games where they've allowed the opponent to score 140 points or more. That's the highest in the NBA, next highest is 4 games. (Atlanta)
January 29, 2026 at 4:25 AM
Warriors beat a mostly-available Jazz 140-124. Once again, defense an issue for this team.

Sensabaugh: 22 points.
Ace Bailey and Keyonte George: both 19 points.
Next up: Brooklyn on Friday to end this 6-game homestand.
January 29, 2026 at 4:25 AM
A late 3Q push means that the Jazz are within 8 entering the fourth. Interesting that the Jazz are going with Markkanen at center right now, it's worked reasonably well for those few minutes.
January 29, 2026 at 3:56 AM
By the way: at least in this first quarter, the Jazz have way turned down the music and aren't doing it on every single possession. You can hear the crowd now and that's a very good thing!
January 29, 2026 at 2:23 AM
Clippers beat the Jazz 115-102. Jazz's offense struggled on the night without two top playmakers in Keyonte George and Jusuf Nurkic. But we had GOOD EXPERIMENTS IN GAME OPS and that's what matters most.

Warriors flew in today and will play the Jazz here tomorrow. See you then!
January 28, 2026 at 5:30 AM
The crowd is actually clapping along at a Jazz game to a chant together! Even Ryan Smith's kids are getting into it! This is making me incredibly happy! It's so easy!
