If anyone's on the hunt for a bike cleaning brush the Dishmatic "Big Job" seems pretty good. Nice big brush head, with decent bristle stiffness - enough but not too much... Short harder bristles on the back. Picked this one up from Tesco, for £3-4 recently. #bikes #cycling

Thames and tributaries very full at the moment... Water almost across the road on the way to Long Wittenham. Culham bridge road still dry though... #RiverThames #oxfordshire #flooding

No way. This is such an unusual sight around here.

A flag actually on a flag pole, rather than shoved half way up street light columns, at some roundabout.🙄

#Fix TheSystem, use actual flag poles, & stop littering the environment with flags for misguided political purposes. #Oxfordshire #Flagging

Apparently only the Bible and Shakespeare have sold more book copies than Agatha Christie (Mallowan) who lies here in Cholsey. Cafe was closed in Wallingford, so spent my coffee money on some Brighton blue cheese from Abingdon market square... 😁 #Oxfordshire #AgathaChristie

I wonder what the secret to getting a reliable seal on a presta valve, to accurately measure the tyre pressure is.... So far an effective method for using this new SKS Air checker 2 is evading me. Less check - more deflate, in my hands at least... 🤔🫤

Did some of the Thames path through Oxford. All dry, no flooded sections. Nice ride. Hinksey meadow flood plain well under water though... #Oxfordshire #Oxford #cycling

🚨 CLARION EXCLUSIVE 🚨

£10m of Government funding for Oxford was sent back. Could it have paid for the cancelled Dutch-style cycleway on Woodstock Road?

In a deep dive, we ask why a Government grant was returned, and if it could have been spent elsewhere in Oxford.

Exclusive: £10m of Government funding for Oxford was sent back
A £10m grant for infrastructure in north Oxford was returned to Government unspent – just as a safe cycleway on Woodstock Road, to be funded by the very same Government body, was cancelled due to a £1...

New headset cartridge bearings time; replacing 10+yro original set. There was some headset play, which couldn't be preloaded away, without the bar movement feeling grainy. Probably should have just installed new ones, when building the bike up 1.5yrs ago.

Earlier, a driver decided my sin was not using the very muddy verge. I just stopped - the driver didn't. I didn't say a word or gesture, driver said 'Sooorry but I was driving slowly. Scared of getting a little muddy are we?'. 🙄 I just cycled off, ignoring them, they hooted. 🤦‍♂️ Muppet.

Misty Pang river valley ride, with a lunch stop at the Hampstead Norreys community shop and cafe. Nice warmed sausage roll and coffee. Up Churn Road, and over the Ridgeway down to Blewbury. Through the streets of flag strewn Didcot...

Climate impacts now affect every coastal and marine habitat.

Overgrazing, polluted water and rising wildlife disease are adding relentless pressure.

If nature underpins stability, food security and wellbeing, this level of decline is indefensible.

A National Security Assessment highlighted nature as a national security risk earlier this week.

Yet yesterday’s Habitats Regulations report shows many of England’s most important habitats are rapidly declining.

Just 3% are in good condition.

And half are in an unfavourable and worsening state 🧵

70km ride up into the Chilterns via Christmas common with a stop at the Spire & Spoke. Fortunately mostly had a tailwind on the way back. Always enjoy Nuffield Hill descent. Deliberately avoided some roads due to possible flooding... #Oxfordshire

Bike in a stand and spin the front wheel (35mm tyres on) hard by hand, and time how long until it stops by itself? 2m55s here... 🙃

I needed to adjust the hydraulic brakes pads (with Birzman razor clam thingy) after 1st ride with these wheels, so thought I see... Quite surprised.

First longer ride in Jan. Rained heavily overnight, so a lot of surface water around in the vale. New wheels on, 35mm tyres, 50-55psi. Bike needed a good clean after, though the mudguards help a lot. Just one short gravel linking section of Icknield greenway from East Hendred area. #Oxfordshire

Ha, I wasn't imagining it, having just checked the bike video footage... In a first for me, this fine, large cat, which I think may be a Bengal, actually chased after me with a high bounding run, from the other side of the road as I went passed... 😁😺

First p*ncture for 10 mths, due to a fragment of flint, which had to be extracted from the tyre. Those skoggy Chiltern lanes, wet from recent rain... Glad I had some lightweight work gloves and pack of tissues, as tyres/rims were pretty grimey.

Out an hour before sunrise on a 60km ish ride, expecting full on cloud and gloom for the duration, but was treated to a great sunrise. 🌞 Good to see Egrets at the Ewelme cress beds... Oh, had a puncture - first since Feb though...
