Lots of swirling attempts to learn lessons from this election, for those dedicated to reforming the criminal justice system. Many see a tension between voting for democrats and also seeking to push them on policy. I do not, and I intend to continue doing both. /1

BREAKING: HB1886 passes the Virginia House! A deferred disposition allows those with a 1st offense to keep a conviction off record after completing court requirements. Still, some are convicted solely because they can’t pay court costs. Delegate McClure’s bill amends this, enhancing public safety!

The death penalty is wrong. Those who believe in mercy and compassion should oppose it on principle. Those who deeply mistrust the government should not trust it to take a person’s life. We should oppose the death penalty at every opportunity and by whatever means is available to us.
ACTION: 15% of federal death row is comprised of people convicted in VA. We’re delivering a letter to the President with many state organizations asking him to use his power to commute it. Email [email protected] to add your organization’s name to this critical request.
