I've been hanging with the hollow men who never got the groove..HUFC following, record collecting, Greyhound dad and ex gadabout. #Fridayvinyl.- every Friday, I have a few beers, play LP's and post pictures of them. Dreary Moron.
This week, our regular closer #TheIncredibleJimmySmith is found in '77 with his most fusion orientated LP "Sit On It!", featuring one Herbie Hancock, it's of it's time but no less the better for it. 'til next week, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Verlaine/Lloyd generally get the plaudits for the title track but Smith's bass is just as, if not more, essential. A monumental contribution to culture. Rest easy Fred.

I recently listened to @outonbluesix.bsky.social excellent mid nineties loungecore revival look back and in it he mentioned this compilation from 2002 which had passed me by. 13 quid on discogs later and here it is. Looking forward to diving in to it. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Whilst I'm in that black hole called nostalgia, here's another West Yorkshire mid noughties band that should have been bigger. They had hook laden tunes for days. Leeds' #TheLodger and their '07 debut "Grown-Ups". Pop par excellence. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

My second Wakefield pick is from #TheResearch which celebrates its 20th birthday later this month. I was living in Shakey Wakey at the time and saw them multiple times. Always great fun live and the lo-fi love/heartbreak songs on this still stand up today. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

#Fridayvinyl time and we begin with a Wakefield double. I'll be honest, I had no plans to buy #TheCribs 9th LP but when it was offered as a reduced bundle with tickets for their Leeds gig (Mrs.O is a big fan) it made sense. The singles have been great, debut spin for this. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Another ace @stuartmaconie.bsky.social #Freakzone tonight. As I'm without work at present and thanks to @ip33.bsky.social and the photo of #FrankSinatra he posted earlier, I'm pouring a large one and extending my Sunday listening with this gorgeous record. #Watertown #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Contrary to this week's theme of only one LP, our regular #Fridayvinyl final act #TheIncredibleJimmySmith recorded over 100, but I can't not close with Jimmy. Here he is with '58's "House Party". 'til next week then stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

Swedish singer #Doris is another one album only artist. Her 1970 LP "Did You Give The World Some Love Today Baby" Is a celebrated curio and with good reason. It's a pop/rock/funk, shit, even musique concrete slice of anything goes at a time when anything went. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Staying in 1991..when I was 17, it was a very good year... and like many of a similar age that annum, I was eventually swept up in all things grunge. When Kurt Cobain cited #YoungMarbleGiants as a fave rave, I was in. Here's their sole studio LP from 1980. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Back to 1991 and my Beach Boys obsession was hitting its peak.I devoured everything BB I could and, having loved Sunflower's "Forever", I was made up when I discovered #DennisWilson had released a solo LP in '77.Another one and done album (Bambu doesn't count!) #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Produced by David Holmes, #CashierNo9 only managed one LP, but what an LP. Brimming with ideas and jangly 60's west coast sensibilities this 2011 album should have been a springboard to fame, but alas didn't catch on. Maybe it was their poor choice of name? #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

#Fridayvinyl time! This week I'm going with one album wonders.."Doledrum" by #TheLas came on the radio t'other day and it whisked me back to being 17. I lived and breathed this LP for about 6 months back then and was rapt when I saw them live in Middlesbrough on 11/3/91. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

And the whisky takes hold..I've been Mr. Frame's biggest fan since I was 11. This '93 LP, his penultimate under the AC moniker, has grown in stature with me over the years. Sakamoto behind the desk compliments and enhances a beautiful record. HBD on Thirsday Roddy! #RoddyFrame #AztecCamera #Vinylsky

@top10nathan.bsky.social wrote a beautiful piece about this LP which rang agonisingly true. I was 16 when it was released and lost my dad soon afterwards. It provided a place of warmth in the cold and continues to do so to this day. A phenomenal record. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #TheBlueNile

The problem with posting pics of records on the soshuls is the exposure to world events. I had a quiet night planned with some happy, relaxed listening. Now I'm fucking angry. Fuck ICE, Fuck Trump. Love to Minneapolis. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #NineInchNails

I've annoyed the current Mrs O sufficiently enough to be banished to the fortress of solitude once more. Huzzah! Let's get some Saturday plastic spinning then.. I have a hankering for some Southern Rock...Little Feat it is! #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Wrapping up #Fridayvinyl is of course #TheIncredibleJimmySmith With a choice of his live LP's to go at, I've decided to plump for his best, and probably most well known. "Root Down" from '72. And with that, I bid you adieu. Stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Not strictly a live LP in and of itself but the bonus EP disc on the #Jellyfish debut compounds my regret with regards to never seeing them in person. Featuring 2 Superlative Macca covers and defying their manufactured facade. This band were the real deal. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

The final track on my previous pick is a self penned track by Roy Phillips titled "Aretha". Only right that we should feature the queen of soul herself with this Live record captured in a TV studio in Germany in 1968. #ArethaFranklin #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Next up on this #Fridayvinyl Live LP special is Brit-Jazz/Soullers #ThePeddlers with "'Live' in London". Released in '74 and recorded the year previously, this was their final UK release before disbanding two years later. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

My second Live LP choice is by #TheFall. Captured on various dates between May and July '81 on their US tour, "A Part Of America Therein" was a stateside only release in '82, making its UK debut ten years later. MES 8 years gone tomorrow.. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #FallFriday
