I've been hanging with the hollow men who never got the groove..HUFC following, record collecting, Greyhound dad and ex gadabout. #Fridayvinyl.- every Friday, I have a few beers, play LP's and post pictures of them. Dreary Moron.
And so, as per, it's over to #TheIncredibleJimmySmith to put an end to these end of week plastic listenings. This week we find him in '62 and his Verve debut "Bashin'". 'til the next #Fridayvinyl, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #Vinylcommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

I remarked a few weeks back that #Motown Chartbusters 3 is probably the finest comp ever. I tell you what though, Vol.4 is up there too. You may know these songs like the back of your hand, but solid gold like this never, ever diminishes. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Despite looking like four plasterers, #TheMotors were purveyors of superior pub-rock-power-pop, as evident on two cracking singles (Airport and Grandstand theme soundalike "Forget About You"). Both feature on this, their second LP, released in '78. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Staying in Manchester for the next #Fridayvinyl pick with a (sort of) brand new comp. Updated and abridged from its original '04 CD release, it's great to have these tracks all together and on vinyl. An hour and twenty minutes of perfection. #FallFriday #TheFall #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

#Fridayvinyl time. Only one way to begin this week's selections. Fly high Mani.x

I was lucky enough to see the Roses four times and on each occasion my eyes were drawn to Mani. He always seemed to be the one that REALLY loved his band. Simple yet effective does him a disservice, he could hold it down but he also absolutely flew with Reni. A terrible loss. Rest easy #Mani x

Lastly, of course, it's #TheIncredibleJimmySmith. This week we have the B-3 Bomber in '63 with "Bucket!". And that's a wrap for another #Fridayvinyl, see you in seven, but remember, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

Sometimes, only the best will do. They don't come much better than #ArethaFranklin, one of those voices that stun me with wonder every.single.time. Name a better set of pipes. Impossible. Here she is with her '68 classic, "Lady Soul". Now excuse me while I kiss the sky. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

I know I bang on about #RichardSwift, but you really should do yourself a massive favour and acquaint yourself with his work. Released posthumously after his tragic early passing, his final LP, "The Hex" is a heartbreaker. Inevitably, my tears will roll. Such a loss. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity

Next up on #Fridayvinyl is #Brentonwood and his '67 debut "Oogum Boogum", featuring that crackerjack title track and it's supernal follow up, "Gimme Little Sign". Mr. Wood left us earlier this year but if my legacy was those two joyful 45's I'd leave this plane a happy man. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
November 14, 2025 at 7:23 PM
#Fridayvinyl time! We begin with #AnimalCollective and for me, their high watermark, 2009's "Merriweather Post Pavilion". I was lucky enough to see them twice around its release, one shambolic, one absolutely mesmerising. Funny old band, Saint. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Time for #TheIncredibleJimmySmith to wave us off again and this week he's found in '72 with stellar support on a live jam from Newport. 'til next #Fridayvinyl then, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

It's been a while since I picked out any #RoddyFrame on #Fridayvinyl. Let's right that wrong now with his first release after retiring Aztec Camera, 98's "The North Star". Some absolute gold here, in particular the banger 'Bigger, Brighter, Better" and the beautiful 'Hymn To Grace'. #VinylCommunity

I note there's a "Deep Dive" (Jebus, that phrase irks me) for this seminal record on 6 music on Sunday to celebrate its 50th birthday next week. Any excuse, if needed, to spin one of the most important LP's of the late 20th century. I love Patti.x #FridayVinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #PattiSmith

#Fridayvinyl time and there's fewer finer statements than "A brand new Ace comp from @rockingbob.bsky.social" This, a sort of companion piece to the excellent "State Of The Union" from a few years back, promises absolute gold. Going in... #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
November 7, 2025 at 6:21 PM
Wrapping up #Frightdayvinyl is of course, #TheIncredibleJimmySmith with his '65 release "Monster" which features interpretations of "Bewitched" and brilliantly, "The Munsters" theme. 'til next week, don't have nightmares and stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. #VinylCommunity #Halloween #Vinylsky

Xmas and #Halloween are the only occasions I can think of where you listen to certain rekkids for a limited time. I quite like that. Like a friend you look forward to seeing, are happy to see, and have great fun with, but once a year is enough. #Frightdayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Halloween

Another #Frightdayvinyl tradition is the spinning of some sabs. This year it's the first without the prince of darkness himself. Hope you're tearing it up out there Oz. #BlackSabbath #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Halloween

Next up on #Frightdayvinyl is the master of horror himself. Responsible for two of my favourite films in the genre, #Halloween and "The Thing" (one of my favourite films of any genre) he is synonymous with spooky season. This retrospective released in 2017 is essential. #VinylCollecrion #Vinylsky

Released on 31st October 1974, De Palma's "Phantom Of The Paradise" was panned by the crits but has gained cult status since. I first saw it as a teen and #PaulWilliams ' songs stuck in my mind as much as the batshit visuals. A long time fave. #Frightdayvinyl #Vinylcommunity #Vinylsky #Halloween

Well this, this is just marvellous. I'm absolutely certain Terry would have loved it too. Headphones on if you can, it's quite the ride. #Lankum

And so, it's over to our regular #Fridayvinyl closer #TheIncredibleJimmySmith. This week we have a rare excursion to 7" and this EP from '65. Play those blues Jimmy son! 'til next week, and my 5th annual #Frightdayvinyl, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

At Pulp's big show in Sheffield back in July I saw #LisaONeill in one of the tents. I was absolutely blind-sided. In front of a pissed-up rowdy crowd, she took me somewhere else and I found myself in absolute bits by the end. Fortunately, it was shades weather. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

My entry point with #REM was "Green", it took me a few years to go back but once I did, man, what a fucking debut. Not only probably their best LP, but one of the best LP's period. Every song shines. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
