This week in 1941 a fire broke out above the state apartments in Dublin Castle.

Firefighters worked hard to salvage irreplaceable paintings and furniture.

Over 100 feet of roof collapsed and the upper two floors were severely damaged

The 1st #strawhouse in Europe was renovated after ~100 years. I asked the cncp-feuillette.fr about problems with the renovation for a lecture:
"We didn't need to carry out any major renovations, just plastering and limewash paint, because it was in very good condition."

The cabbage has been maintained by the Sweeney family in the Donegal village Gortahork since 1910 when Owen Sweeney bought the original seeds from Scotland. It is a fairly unique large drumhead cabbage that may actually be a lost cabbage variety from the island of Skye in Scotland.

This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,

The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance

Iconic imo
