The last 3.5 yrs a small, stubborn team has been rebuilding an independent bookshop, powered by tea, spreadsheets & a slightly excessive love of books.
We’re now officially An Post Bookshop of the Year & our MD, Mick Finucane, has written a 5 a.m. blog about it

Bookshop Of The Year 2025 Chapters Bookstore Dublin
It is 5 a.m. and I am sitting at the kitchen table, my jacket and bow tie abandoned somewhere in the hall, far too wired to sleep. A few hours ago, at the An Post Irish Book Awards, Chapters was named...

RIP Tom Stoppard who did so much incredible work, not least writing every single line of dialogue in Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade.

Hi 🦋!

I have been on Twitter since 2011 but haven’t closed my account, as I have met many fab people & good friends there. But I have now deleted over 70k tweets before the next crazy move of the current cuckoo landlord! Let's connect & make this a positive corner of the internet 🙏

Upsettingly, he looks younger than my own fourty two years … 🤦🏻‍♂️
In 1579 when this was painted William of Orange, 46 years old, was at the height of his power. Five years later he would be assassinated at close range.

I was drawn to this humble, unassuming window at the Talbot Inn in Much Wenlock. Maybe it’s the bulls eye centre — or the thought of peeking faces, everyday moments, and stories it has seen over the centuries. What is it for you? 🤔

Absolutely love the stylus Sir William Bruce holds in his hand here - chalk in one end and charcoal in the other? A wonderful insight to the methods of the past.

We urgently need Compulsory Rental Orders so no habitable home lies empty in order to keep rents high, espically new build apartment blocks

Leaving these homes empty just goes to show that the profit margins must be huge to go without any income

Housing crisis in a nutshell

“Our adult children would love to move out

There’s a beautiful new apartment block 5 minutes away. Sadly they are all for rent at extortionate prices

What’s more infuriating is many of these apartments are still vacant” (text in alt) www.irishtimes.com/opinion/lett...

“Have we all been gaslit by the construction industry?

Centralising power among a few politicians & lobbyists risks edging towards autocracy. Access to the courts is not an obstacle to progress – it is a safeguard that allows citizens to hold power to account”

100% this. The housing crisis just benefits too many landlords to put an end to it. Borders counties, and Leitrim in particular is just abandoned home after abandoned home, just waiting to be fixed up and breathed life into.

For 125 years, the preservation of the White House has functioned as an agreement between the influential and the powerful, with no accountability.

When Donald Trump demolished the East Wing, he showed once again how unconstrained the Presidency really is.
White House Architecture Was an Honor System. Trump Noticed.
For 125 years, informal norms constrained what a president could do to one of the nation’s most famous landmarks.
