It also really doesn't address any of the issues like image abuse; recommender algorithms and much more besides.

But it's so palatable politically because it's easy to understand as a "we care" option.

I'd love to see what ministers have been lobbied by what giant tech orgs of late bc this idea sounds like it's coming from Zuckerberg etc. It's 'blame the user, not the platform' on a grander scale. Really disappointing from the Government.

Sitting across the Oireachtas Children's Committee on online safety for children.

Very much getting the impression that a lot of politicians are reaching for the Under-16 ban. Momentum behind that rather than a deeper understanding of platforms, algorithms and any alternative view.

There is no other way of describing the activities of Kansas politicians other than as Nazism. Armed thugs sent to persecute, & arrest, German Queer ppl was a Nazi core evil. The far right GOP wants to repeat that nightmare by having thugs patrol >private< facilities to attack US trans ppl!
1. The most extreme anti-trans bill ever proposed is currently rocketing through the Kansas legislature.

It would empower bounty hunters to search for trans people in bathrooms, even in private businesses, and sue them for large sums of money.

The House is voting on it today.

The bill, which is racing through the Kansas legislature, stands a significant chance of passing the Senate.

It’s taken from a Reuters feed rather than written by a IE journalist. All Irish news outlets seem to do this to cut costs and fill out their websites for ad views / clicks.

I was paying for The Currency in its early days but was turned off by its super-pro-capitalism opinions.
