Things you love to see
Ooh just saw that magnificent celebrappeal from Carse dismissing Gill last night. Very nice indeed
Yup. Was still receiving them from both grandmothers in my early 20s. Cashing the American ones was such a hassle we eventually taught my US family how to make bank transfers with the smallest fees, or just send us books/ other things we couldn’t purchase from here
Yeah. I remember being the last person in a supermarket who could work out how to use a cheque reader

Well, this is turning out to be a lot less thrilling finish than I’d hoped. #ENGvIND 🏏
Oh screw it: Guillaume Martin
Yeah that’s true. It is one of the more strange things given the whole American thing, that we never had a fax machine or really attempted to use the home printer as one
Yeah I hit mid-teenage years just as MSN messenger was becoming a thing. I certainly preferred that to ICQ and AIM, although with American family and contacts I did use the latter quite a bit
Yeah absolutely. There’s nothing left after this. And as I write this Archer nearly pins Jadeja lbw. Down leg
Yeah. And this is why they were so desperate to get Archer back. Tell you what though, as much of a liability Stokes has been with the bat this series, he’s been terrific with the ball
But yeah that I could’ve developed a relationship with my dad’s sister through Skype and Facebook that extended beyond “how are you doing in school” was just completely world changing and it was something that even by 2012 travelling through the UK you could see folks taking completely for granted
Yeah, like don’t get me wrong I was definitely lucky that I got to see my closest American relatives on five separate stints before the last of them died (3 there, 2 here). That would’ve been unthinkable if I were even 15 years older.
Oh wow what a caught and bowled. This is the Jofra I desperately hope makes it to Perth later in the year
Yeah there is that. 81-6 needing 192. Game’s gone
On the advent of Skype my dad and his sister would talk for an hour to ninety minutes a week across the world. Before that I genuinely went 5 years without hearing her voice.
I mean yes there were the occasional family member we’d call across the world a few times a year, but as kids our conversations were literally less than 2 minutes. A tape at least bought me and my sister 5-10 minutes. But a conversation would literally last 6 months. Think Matt Damon on The Martian
Two that always blow the minds of even 20 year olds I know:

1. Listening to radio with a tape player at the ready to record the moment the song you like started

2. The fact that I literally didn’t a visual idea of my overseas relatives and family conversations were sent on tape by post over months
What’s a real thing from your childhood that kids these days would find completely foreign?

Like, how we used to be able to walk right up to the gate to meet our family coming off a flight.

Or how we had to pick a spot to meet at the theater BEFORE we went.
I know either Austin or McEnroe made this comment on the world feed but it really did feel like Anisimova’s final was that incredible match on Thursday.

I’m loving it. Every second. Feeling for Amanda though, but this is a a career and legacy defining win for Iga.
