I am a Disability Rights, healthcare policy, education, advocate. I am interested in government policy. I want to encourage people to speak up for themselves. We must build communities and a society that meets people's basic needs, protected legal rights.

That is true. One concern I have is that the people do not come together to hold our elected officials accountable.
We also need to change our approach to meeting people's needs by everyone in the community coming together to meet the members needs instead of waiting for those at the top.
It is also a failure of those politicians elected to represent us for not providing healthcare for their people. Instead they want to give money to other countries like Argentina who has a leader who has policies that failed to meet the needs of it's people.
I will never understand why health care has been used as a political game because it is a common essential need for everyone not if you are either a Democrat or Republican.
We need to take care of each other. Members of the community making sure all the members needs are met. This needs to be a daily practice. This is not going to happen from the top down like the media and politicians want us to believe. This is the way of our ancestors, we have forgotten.
🚨🚨Wow‼️In these times of uncertainty we need more Romeo’s in the world. He paid for people to eat for an hour and over 200 people were fed. This is the humanity and community we need right now. Bravo, Romeo‼️🔥💥🔥

The United States Department Of Agriculture notified grocery stores NOT to provide discounts for people who lost their November SNAP benefits. The Trump Administration does NOT want any person on SNAP to have access to food. Even though the Republicans do not believe in government regulations.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
This idea is long overdue. Congress has been favoring thr rich for over 45 years since Ronald Reagan proposed the first tax cuts for the rich.

Congrats New Mexico!

Child care costs can run as high as a rent/mortgage payment or higher.

All children deserve the same access to the same quality of care. The quality of your child's care and early learning shouldn't be determined on your income.

Every state should be watching and learning
@repmikejohnson.bsky.social Swear in Representitve-elect Adelita Grijalva, if not the court will order you to do it. It should not take a legal action in order for you do do what your job requires you to do.
This is a great idea, that can be used by different people: patients in hospitals, airlines, nursing homes, schools, etc. #accessibility #disabilities
Given that food is so often a key part of social interactions, having to explain dietary needs over and over again gets really draining - whether it's allergies, texture aversions, swallowing issues, health management issues. This card can be a quick way of giving clear, info quickly and easily.

A very personal post.

Today was the first day I have been out of the house “for fun” in weeks. I fell over weeks ago and have damaged my knee badly. Today I was taken out in a wheelchair. It gave me such a different view of the world and complete empathy and understanding of a very different life.

Canada opened its first ever FREE GROCERY STORE 🎯

The food banks new community hub looks like a regular supermarket, but it’s all free! (Through donations and volunteering)

What a great idea America! NOBODY should go hungry!
@governor.ca.gov That is true however, Governor's in several states are using emergency reserve funds to help their residents access food assistance next month. Why aren't you doing that to help Californians?
Give me a break.

Whether millions of Americans go hungry or lose their health care shouldn't be some kind of game in the GOP government shutdown.
BASH: Even Hawley says you should move money around to feed people. Why not consider it?

JOHNSON: Because if you deviate from the goal of reopening the entire govt, Schumer & the radicals will continue to play games. If you do just part of this, it will reduce the pressure for them to do all of it
I think that Congress should have done a continuing resolution so they can meet and negotiate a budget agreement so people will receive their benefits, government could remain open and government employees would receive pay. Both parties are posturing for political points at the people's expense.
Republicans want to starve children to pressure Democrats into gutting healthcare.

How do we know?

Mike Johnson just admitted it.

The Federal Communications Commission just voted again th raise rates to prison inmates calling friends and family. This again is more proof that government cares more about corporate profits than making all communication and technology available to all people.
That is the purpose of government.
🚨NEW: The FCC has voted to raise calling rates for incarcerated people – a move that bends to the will of telecomm companies, jails and prisons, while saddling poor families with higher costs.

Now, prices could hike as much as 83% 🧵

In these challenging political times, when those in power seem intent on weakening our care systems rather than strengthening them, it can be hard to imagine a better way forward. Yet even amidst adversity, we must hold on to our vision of what a just and equitable care system can be.
