Dear Lord God, give us your guidance that we may rightly understand your Word and more than that, do it.
Amen.

Today in the Anglican tradition we thank God for St. Paulinus, bishop of York, apostle to the Anglo-Saxons, and missionary to England! Lord, grant us the same strength to follow the Holy Spirit to unknown places, trusting You protect us whenever and wherever we work to bring about Your Kingdom
Stain glass window of St. Paulinus of York. He is dressed in a green chasuble trimmed with gold and dotted with white gemstones, he also wears a white and gold miter. He carried a long golden cross in the crook of his left arm, and holding a red book against his chest. He raises his right hand. He is framed by a white and gold nimbus.

It’s Baby Loss Awareness Week.

After losing multiple pregnancies in my 20s, I eventually wrote The Dark Womb about theology and pregnancy loss. Part of that was a selection of prayers & liturgies - available here

Today in the Anglican tradition we thank God for William Tyndale, Reformation martyr and translator of the Penteteuch and New Testament into English.
God, grant us the same strength to use the gifts You have given us to further Your Kingdom

Saw this beautiful piece ‘Jesus in the Midst,’ by Nicholas Evans (1974) as part of the Welsh mining history & art exhibit
Jesus, dressed in miner gear, stands at the dead end of a mineshaft holding a lit lantern in his right hand and a pair of keys in his left. Men bow and kneel desperately and his feet, clutching their hands in prayer; one man on Jesus’ right has his head in his hands. Their mining equipment is abandoned behind them, with rats crawling along the side.
It is swathed in blue darkness witn the only light from Jesus’ headlamp styled as a nimbus, and the lantern he holds.

Today in the Anglican tradition, we thank God for Bishop Lancelot Andrewes. He was one of the chief translators of the KJV Bible, overseeing the First Westminster Company that did Genesis - 2 Kings! Lord, grant us the same fiery spirit to use the gifts You have given us to further Your Kingdom ❤️‍🔥
Recreated painting by an unknown artist of Joseph Buckshorn’s oil portrait of Lancelot Andrewes (c. 1660). Andrewes is depicted with small eyes and a narrow face with a long, blonde goatee and moustache. His hair is covered by a black skull cap and he wears a ruff, white rochet (?), and black chimere

Today the Church of England remembers Theodore of Tarsus, second Archbishop of Canterbury, who had never set foot in these isles before being appointed, and who had to learn the local tongue on the journey here.

There would be no British Christianity without immigrants.

St. Cyprian did this when he gave his wealth to the poor, when he gave up his family’s status, and when he gave up safety to convert.
In doing this, St. Cyprian lived and died with more glory than the empire that killed him. Lord, grant us the same sacrificial spirit ❤️‍🔥

I think St. Cyprian - in his life and actions and even in the contours of his theology - is one of best examples of showing how God being in our lives is what grants us the strength to relinquish our comfort and power; to truly sacrifice

🧵 Today in the Anglican tradition (at least in the UK) we thank God for St. Cyprian, bishop of Carthage and martyr
Icon of St. Cyprian. He is depicted with thick white hair and long white beard. He wears a black and white repeating cross symbol robe with a pink stole also patterned with crosses. With his right hand his thumb and third finger touch whilst he holds a bedazzled book with his left hand (tucked into his sleeve) against his chest - representing the sermons of Christ. His head is framed by a golden nimbus with “Saint Cyprian” in gold script, each word either side of her head

Today in the Anglican tradition we thank God for St. John Chrysostom, one of the Church Fathers I would consider most animated. He is famed for his extension homiletical collection were he constantly explored God. Lord, grant us the same diligence to discern your wonderful word
Mosaic of St. John Chrysostom. He wears a purple robe with grey sleeve and white stole with a black cross pattern. He is depicted as a balding man with a twin-parted beard and thin face. With his right hand, his third finger touches his thumb, whilst he holds a bedazzled book in the crook of his left arm - symbolising the sermons of Christ. He is framed by a golden nimbus with a black and green outline
