Snobby gen-Xer near NYC. Music person, food, dogs, comedy, nyc, nj. He/him.
I wish I could just tell the algorithms on other platforms what I want and don't want. I'd tell it (1) I don't want to see Louis C.K. in any format and (2) I know the guy who had my telephone # before me was Hasidic, but that's a different person.

Staffer for a republican US representative in NJ is accused of staging a Jussie Smollett-style incident. At 26 she had an interesting job at a moment when her party is ostensibly in power, so one wonders why she thought this was a good idea.

Ex-staffer for Trump’s NJ ally says she was attacked. The feds say she’s lying.
The former U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew staff member paid someone to use a scalpel to cut the phrase “Trump Whore” across her stomach, federal officials said.

THIS is the reason? A flippant joke about an article about Johnny Cash using the most famous lyrics by {checks notes} Johnny Cash? And they wipe off her entire account? Fuck that. gizmodo.com/bluesky-is-c...

Got burned on my TurboTax subscription (forgot I had it, renewed against my wishes, etc.) Logged into Intuit to see what was up, had to fiddle with passwords. Was pleased to see that my old pw was SatanLovesTurboTax666+.

I followed Link and he seemed all right. Jay, Aaron et al do not seem all right, OTOH.
Hear ye hear ye a message of hope and inspiration from our courageous leader in exile, Link. May all his loyal followers take heart!

So I'd like to show a demonstration of what this "waffles" thing is. Here's a conversation between *this site's* CEO, some random guy, and the cofounder of "Tangled", a GitHub clone built on top of Bluesky's protocol.

Please take a moment to really think, about the shape of this thoughtlessness.

It turns out you can just completely randomize both parts of the "_____ hears _____" viral video equation.

My concert flex is Dinosaur Jr. at Brown in 92. They were loud as fuck. They covered Pere Ubu's "Final Solution" but at the time I did not know what it was.

I was happy to see that Rebecca Valeriano-Flores (formerly of Negative Scanner) has a demo out with a new band. The new sound seems to be more jangly, more melodic, less in-your-face, so we'll see how that goes.

So we are doing a pretty substantial renovation on our home, and got three quotes for it. We've picked one contractor and signed a contract. Is it polite to contact the other two and tell them we are not going with them? Wife thinks yes, I think no.

Weird notice at a local post office. What is the point of saying that the cameras "are not monitored"?

Had my first visit from the Jehovah's Witnesses in like 20 years, and for the first time I let it rip and said things I haven't ever told my own mother (i.e. I "wouldn't go back," that it was "obviously a man-made institution" and I was "very comfortable in a godless universe.") 1/2

Oh haha it was Bolt, the cartoon dog movie. I was in my 30s.
What's the middest movie that has ever made you cry?

I've already blocked the guy out there arguing that it's "a brutal time to be a boy" because he's being a dick, but also, all society actually asks is that boys be reasonably smart and sensitive, and to play nice with their classmates, colleagues, and romantic partners. It's really not difficult.

Had medication sticker shock at the pharmacy today, as I'm suddenly asked to pay close to retail price (ca. $1000) for my prescription, until I hit my deductable. Now, it's a High Deductable plan so that makes sense. 1/?

Comedian Benny Feldman just dropped a masterful, half-hour long lecture on how irony in comedy works and why "it's just a joke" isn't a defense for material that is "evil." It's got such a clear outline and it's so well argued, if you like explainer videos. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WGt...

I like to imagine that Billy Eichner didn't really like yelling at people, but the Fuse network pushed him to be more and more over the top. So every night he would drink a bottle of wine and cry himself to sleep.

@nytopinion.nytimes.com editors strike again with unnecessarily slanted headlines. An accurate headline for this op-ed would be something like "Why Liberals are Leaving X for Bluesky"....

One positive note in this election is that the Moms for Liberty-type candidate for our local school board lost. I actually thought he was a shoo-in but happily our town knows that "my child will become trans in school and they won't notify me" is not a real problem.

One bit from the Bezos essay that sticks with me today: "The Washington Post and the New York Times win prizes, but increasingly we talk only to a certain elite."

Obviously the conservative discourse has settled on a complete and total severance between a "cultural" elite and an economic elite...

Ooh, random Lin-Manuel story. A few years ago I lived in Washington Heights, the subject of his first musical and the hood where he was still maintaining a presence. One night I am walking my dog, and I round the corner onto 181st and there's lots of people out...
