I’m not impressed with this. As a Sikh, Diwali for me is about spending time with family and going to the gurudwara. The only ‘gifts’ we exchange are mithai.

We always have a few 'sundowners,' and usually just over half of our patients are on one-to-one obs for reasons like falls risk or aggression. We all carry personal panic alarms and keep an eye on each other and our patients. There's something reassuring about knowing your team really has your back.

Our patients are in the advanced stages of dementia - some are only in their 50s and 60s. We only accept people under a section, and most have very poor sleep and are at risk of falls. Nearly all have communication difficulties, but there are also quiet, tender moments of connection that mean a lot.

We used to call it the 'graveyard shift,' but that's rarely heard these days - we just say 'nights' now ... I've seen staff in tears and really struggling because they just can't manage working nights ... I'm naturally nocturnal, anyway, so they suit me just fine 😊 ...
