Things I did yesterday after deactivating Xitter yesterday instead of gloom scrolling:
Arranged flowers, went for a walk, listened to music, cooked a stew, read about Patti Smith, wrote in my journal.

One of my favorite facts: neurons and skin cells are 'cousins'.

Intelligence is a phenomenon that lives at boundaries. The semipermeable cell membrane is where the ball got rolling.

I wrote an essay riffing on this idea.

Cardinal Robert McElroy, a Pope Leo ally who serves as archbishop of Washington, doesn’t mince words about what’s happening.

“We are witnessing a full-scale governmental assault designed to produce fear among millions.

“It's an instrument of terror.”
Trump’s Raids Terrorize Catholics — Pope Leo’s Top Cardinal Calls It an ‘Assault on Millions’
Seminarians are leaving the country, priests worry they could be next, and Pope Leo XIV insists the Church must stand with its most vulnerable faithful.

“My advice, as in everything, is to read widely and think for yourself We need more dissent and less dogma.”
― Camille Paglia
I must say I’m very pleased not to have encountered any anti-psychiatry here so far.
Terrible.
It used to be quite a trailblazer.
Sorry for your circumstances.
What a timely posting, at a time when I have just left Twitter because of how deeply unpalatable anti-psychiatry dogma had become.
Thanks so much for sharing.
It’s the way they tell ‘em.😂
Honestly, you couldn’t make it up.
Fantastic!
I’d love a link to your performances.
Love the Last Goat in Bergen County…he really captures it.
Those of us with loved ones who have benefited from ECT know only too well how this treatment can save lives in a number of ways, not merely by reducing suicide risk.
Thank you for your valuable research and clinical work in this field.

ECT really does save lives. Our new SR/MA shows reduced mortality in people receiving ECT versus a comparator treatment. We didn't show a reduction in suicides but you probably wouldn't expect to be able to.
I met Patti in the early ‘70s when she came to recite poetry at Bennington College, where I was a student at the time.
The drama teacher introduced us and she was incredibly warm and wise, and a lot of fun to be with at the after party.
I love her memoirs.
She’s as authentic as they come.
Too true.
He was quite prestigious in his own little bigoted way (it was the late ‘70s/early ‘80s) so I think they were afraid to sack him, until so many of us complained.
Same.
I am fortunate to have a good NHS pension after a long career, but I know that is also undergoing changes for those who are retiring now.
There was a huge argument on Xitter about this just a couple of days ago, where disabled people were trying to explain this simple fact to those who simply wouldn’t listen.
Certainly I do find inhaling oxygen quite helpful in keeping me upright.
Having engaged in far too many useless arguments over the years, this is a really helpful and informative article.
Thanks for sharing, Tim.
Pensions are classed as a benefit, pass it on.
Remember that DWP classifies pensions as a type of benefit
Blow me over with a feather!
Online stalking is very serious, which is why there are laws against it.
Stay safe.
Great idea to surround yourself with people who help you feel good about yourself.
That isn’t selfish, it’s self-care and survival.
Useful thread for anyone who has been stalked.
Stalking casts a long shadow.
I was stalked decades ago IRL and I still find myself occasionally looking over my shoulder.
I think online stalking can have a similar effect.
Sorry this is happening to you.
I’ve just abandoned twitter and am struck by how much less racism and toxicity there is here on Bluesky.
