At last, this paper found a (nice!) home in Stato&Mercato. With Francesco Bagnardi, we offer an explanation for the deep variation in Italian governments' policy approaches towards informal employment - shifting between enforcement efforts & blatant forbearance. www.rivisteweb.it/doi/10.1425/...

New publication alert! @paytongannon.bsky.social and I write about the importance of trustworthy, timely data on abortion in the case of Italy, but this dynamic plays out around the world. Citizens need to be able to hold public bureaucracies accountable! Read more in @revdem2020.bsky.social!

✍️ Delayed data on abortion care in Italy impacts citizens’ ability to effectively advocate and hold their government accountable for the management of public healthcare, @dmpullan.bsky.social and @paytongannon.bsky.social argue in their article.

I‘d love to read an account on this too, although I think the breaking point were less the fiscal rules or the „need“ to consolidate the budget itself than the nature of suggested measures, in particular the quest to finance part of this by increasing income (wealth tax, or banking levy).
