story: I had a collection of some mangled renditions of SMB 1-1 BGM that id been making just because they're funny.
generating some janky ai marios for the album art crossed my mind but didn't feel right, even 4 years ago.
so i drew the worst mario i could.
that decision feels better every day.

The style is unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war.Our analysis of 43 official IDF videos found recycled 3D environments, spatial inaccuracies, and assets lifted from unrelated artists and institutions.We traced over 30 unique assets to Washington-based 3D creator Ian Hubert, who makes bespoke models created for his sci-fi project Dynamo Dream, available to his Patreon subscribers.

Models of parking lots, antennas, + pipes were repurposed as Hamas and Iranian military sites

Fascinating work here tracing how the IDF recycled 3D assets from a cyberpunk sci-fi art project, the Scottish Maritime Museum and elsewhere to populate its widely-seen models of supposed enemy locations in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. One of the most infamous, the alleged underground Hamas command center at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, used to justify an unprecedented assault on the biggest medical center in Gaza, was actually an animation the IDF had used the previous year, saying at the time it was a tunnel beneath a UN school.

my parents mostly seem to see it as a case of the usa being the "police of the world", with the rapture stuff being an important secondary aspect. they dont seem to be consciously anti-arab, but there's an undercurrent of it.

maybe it doesnt need to be yelled but there's a strange sadness in finding peace within a group of unseemly weirdos and then learning that we weren't supposed to do that. but the landlord can't mass evict us so they're furiously implementing hostile architecture

Honestly, between this latest round of "posting through it" and the proposed TOS changes that go into effect in less than two weeks, it really does feel like the intent is to deliberately drive away all of the "unseemly weirdos" that they don't think they should have to listen to.

Dear CEO, there's an active subset of Bluesky that routinely harasses trans and queer folk, even doxxing them. This person in particular is a huge problem and even was cited in federal documents harming trans folks. What are you doing to address this?

joining bsky was kind of huge for me as it was the first time i openly embraced my sexuality on a social media platform.
that's still an ongoing process for me, but i still really value the medium that's served me so far, even if it feels like an actively collapsing plaza rn
