I've only been doing this for 18 months, but it seems that there was already a lot of slop out there that dilutes the market and certainly the addition of tons of AI-generated crap makes it even worse. Very hard to break through.

I don't think the quality of my writing has fallen off but like you, I'm getting fewer reads and less interactions, depending on the platform. I'm getting 20% at best on Medium compared to this time last year.

I'm with you, though - write what you love!

Been second guessing myself a lot lately. Like if my income is trending downwards, are people bored of my schtick? Or am I not churning them out quick enough to compete?

I am so tired of people equating "edge" with "good" writing, and people implying I can't be a serious writer because of the things I love. Bradbury himself inoculated himself early against such foolishness. Love what you love. Write what you love. Tell everyone else to fuck the fuck off.
