I am delighted to know that Principia Mathematica can now be done by machinery. . . I am quite willing to believe that anything in deductive logic can be done by machinery.

I am a weird centrist dad holdout who thinks Keir Starmer is quite good, actually - but still, he does not get anywhere near enough shit for having single-handedly destroyed the UK overseas aid system.
A politically expedient decision which saves little money but kills thousands. It’s unforgivable.
Even in this place, I feel the sheer scale of foreign aid being demolished isn't fully appreciated. As it stands, it is perhaps *the* most catastrophic change to preventable deaths in our lifetimes, and the salience - even in presumably friendly spaces - is basically zero

I finally took the time to present my favourite poem ever, the achingly beautiful *Night chant of a travelling shepherd of Asia*, by Leopardi.
It's longish, and cosmically sad, but so worth it. Do read.

#IlGattopardo

This is a view looking down on a portion of Saturn's rings.

Find the white structures along the edge of the ring, near the top.

Now look at their shadows, cast on the rings themselves just below them.

Those white structures are giant towers of icy ring particles, some rising more than 2 km.
