I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy joins Claudia Sheinbaum, Justin Trudeau, Xi Jinping (technically Liu He) and Jean-Claude Juncker in the exclusive and honourable club of people who have bamboozled Trump by signing deals in which he gets nothing. Heroes all. They should get badges and membership cards made up.

Donald Trump says Canada has no right to exist.
I take the threat seriously. With our sovereignty on the table I support a national discussion on next steps.
But CBC thinks it would be fun to have an American DJ co-host whether we should exist as a nation.

The UK and France could each loan Canada nuclear deterrents. We don't need enough to make the US the temperature of the Sun, just enough guarantee neither the POTUS or Trump will survive invading Canada.

My view FWIW is that we're watching the end of the American empire in real time, and just as fast, as the end of the Soviet Union in 1989-91. It won't be straight down, but it's over. This is an unrecoverable error. My guess is it's China's century from here. We'll see.

Fun geography facts:

Canada shares a land border with one EU nation (Denmark), and a maritime border with another (France).

Newfoundland is closer to Berlin than Vancouver.

Given territorial contiguity and historic trans-Atlantic ties, why is Canada not exploring admission to the EU right now?
Trump got gasps from the hardened audience at Davos with his address when he once again insisted Canada could “become a US state” to wipe out the trade deficit. He added “we dont need their cars and we dont need their lumber.”

Everyone thought it was a big joke. The Davos delegates don’t anymore.

For 75 years the tacit deal has been an infantilised Canadian sovereignty in return for nuclear umbrella and access to American markets. That arrangement seems to be over, and for the better I think.
