Given the equinox, I want to discuss one of the more secretive rituals of Thelema, but one that has been public for a while thanks to an upload from Northwestern University. The ritual in question is Crowley's Ceremony of the Equinox.

I spent too much time trying to figure out how I should approach this one. Below is an image from JFC Fuller. Some 20 years after this painting he would become fascist. Even when he was close to Crowley he pretty deep into chudhood.

But the image is still instructive, so I want to highlight it.

Above and within the snakes a flaming triangle of ten doorways of different color are arranged. The spaces between the doorways hold Egyptian godforms. Above is a sun, and another circle depicting the constellations.

One serves as egregoric, delineating the group’s (insomuch as it exists) trajectory while one can facilitate their own Word on a much more personal level. It also serves as an opportunity to drill the basic gestures of ceremony for when initiation is on the table.

It doesn’t matter if you’re receiving the Word of the Equinox from any form of lineal authority chain or doing solitary work. If you’re interested in interfacing with this material as an Initiate, it is an excellent idea to be producing your own Word of the Equinox in parallel.

All of this is to say that I find that it helps my continuity of practice to make the Equinox a seasonal anchorpoint for Thelemic practice. One may not be doing a ton of initiations sometimes, but we have two opportunities per year to run the Ceremony of the Equinox.

While the other papers associated with Cadaveris, the Zelator initiation, have not been preserved in situ, one also presumes it opens with the Pyramidos method. I can see little reason why it does not given that other A.’.A.’. material opens in the same way.

Fuller appears to be uniting the individual sketches in Crowley’s Pyramidos manuscript into a coherent piece of art depicting the visionary impact of the opening of Pyramidos. All is here; the gateways, pyramid, the ritual circle, the operators, etc.

This is helpful today in specific because it is the Equinox, which has a relatively confidential ceremony that Northwestern University has helpfully made public (in one form). See my other posts on that topic. The ritual calls for the opening of the temple to take the character of Pyramidos.

This image was selected for one of the Breeze Equinoxes; 4:1 Commentaries on the Holy Books. This is apt because that volume includes the illuminated holograph manuscript of Pyramidos that has Crowley’s sketches about the spiritual mechanisms that undergird the rite.

I dunno who needs to hear this but if someone is offering insights in the style of the image on the left, but cannot articulate in clear simple terms what is intended by Chumbley's illustrations in Azoetia like the one on the right, they should be summarily dismissed.

An image advertising a certain well known esoteric instructor's substack page offering, titled "Walking the Crooked Path" substitled "An Introduction to Andrew Chumbley's Cultus Sabbati" with an image of the Second Circle of the Dragon Book of Essex (plus the opposite title page of the same book) as the background.

Of course this completely ignores the fact that, as far as I know, the person in question had zero contact with the Cultus insomuch as it actually exists in a body of temporal initiates administered by caretakers of Xoanon Press. Also for someone who claims to have had relatively close contact with Andrew, he, again afaik, never actually quotes the alleged personal correspondence he kept.

In any case I highly doubt there's anything in these posts that can't be apprehended quicker and more directly from the Horseman's mouth in the Opuscula Magicka volumes.

It is important to remember that the LBRP is meant to, in the Kabbalistic sense, root the Aspriant at the intersection of Samekh and Pe. This is a position that implies mastery of the elements and orients one toward the Sun of Tifaret.

In this sense it is, in it's own small way, initiatory.

There is absolutely room to just do Zen in the AA as a primary contemplative mode. We are commanded to have nominal familiarity with the spiritual practices of all times and places and that includes not just Zen but a lot of material that didn’t get Anglophone attention until after AC died.
