A new batch of BSky users means it might be time to reintroduce myself:

My name is Jose Argumedo. I am a director/editor for CNN and I freelance in the anime industry for Viz Media and Discotek Media. I also do photography including (and especially) cosplay, so check out some of my work!

Can’t stand that some of these catalog/steelbook releases seem to get one printing for people who pre-ordered and that’s it. Everything goes out of print so fast now, it’s impossible to keep up.

Wish I picked up the 4K UHD’s of both films but I didn’t know they were even announced and they’re stupid expensive right now for second-hand copies so, digital only and sticking to my old Blu-rays.

Checking out the Tron Legacy 4K transfer via AppleTV to see how the F35 cameras hold up. Those Sony F35’s were the last of their kind, end of an era for HD Super 35mm CCD chips. Footage of those cameras were something else back in the day, but RED and ARRI CMOS chips started to take over the market.

Thinking of going back to the old site
Remember the old Dragon Ball Z website?

One Piece went HD in 2004 with episode 207 and at the time their workflow revolved around 1080i/30. It wasn’t until episode 687 in 2015 that Toei modernized their workflow to match other shows and it became a 1080p/24 production. This isn’t a take, I just need to curse people with this knowledge.

Do whatever it takes to get out of and stay out of debt. You do not want to be on the opposite side of compound interest, it’s absolutely demoralizing. Having money in an HYSA for rainy days and either a 401k or Roth IRA for your retirement means compound interest starts working for you.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

So, I almost didn’t buy the DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza because it was a lot to buy it with the base game and then this happened. Worth every penny.

The microseries is on the Blu-ray.

I love being the lackey of a bandit who’s taken over a small rural village in Sengoku Japan. A Ronin with a large kasa obscuring their face has just walked into the tavern demanding to speak to our leader, but I’m sure he’s no threat and me pouring my sake all over him will have no consequences

Today is IGPX’s 20th anniversary in Japan. Hongo-san’s series premiere on TV Asahi October 5, 2005, and Toonami premiered their version one month later on November 5th. If you want to watch the show, the only way to watch both versions in their entirety is on Blu-ray. Still very proud of it.

I had trouble putting it down. I think I got to a point to where I thought the game was almost over so I figured I’d finish it, but then another thing happened and that kept happening for 6 hours till I finally finished it. Now I’m in all the DLC and extras, but main game’s over.

Can now confirm. Beat in a weekend. Amazing game.

On October 5th, 2005, 20 years ago today, the first episode of #IGPX aired in Japan for the first time on TV Asahi. I made this post simply to commemorate the 20th anniversary of IGPX, and I'll be back for the anniversary of the US premiere in a month!
(new YT video coming before then!!)

Somewhat same. I normally always have a beard but I’m shaving everything except my mustache for a cosplay at the the end of the year.

As of now, there’s no reason to believe they’ll stop translating plot important text. That’s usually still on typical captioning tracks positioned at the top of the screen or burned in. But yeah, it won’t be up to the same kind of standard that CR started with.
arguingmeadows.com
It’s this XKCD comic for the last 50 years.
arguingmeadows.com
Even back when HD was first introduced, there was a standard introduced alongside it, EIA-708, and no one used it because the support wasn’t as universal as CEA-608 which is still used to this day.
arguingmeadows.com
Others have introduced more modern alternatives like SRT and ASS (horrible file name) and proprietary subs like iTT from Apple but they all run into the same issue. You’d have to get everyone to agree to a standard that would work for streaming boxes, phones, websites. So far, CEA-608 has dominated.
arguingmeadows.com
It’s not that the standard is poor, it’s that it’s been around since the 1970’s and converting the enormous catalog of captions into something more modern is totally unfeasible. It’s easier to build players that just support the standard from then.
