Writing YA mysteries by night (and early mornings, and on my commute, and...) and public interest lawyering by day. Forever a Minnesotan at heart although I live on the East Coast. Mom / baker / reader / querying author.
I don't think I'll get to 50K. BUT: revised my query with help from a favorite author, found a novel I wrote in college that has a kernel of potential, wrote half of my YA mystery sequel, outlined the rest. What a #Nanowrimo! #amwriting #amquerying

Return to work being even more soul-crushing than expected has slowed down my writing - still over 30K words so far for #nanowrimo though! Taking that as a win in light of...everything.

I haven't been paid during the #governmentshutdown, and I still wanted it extended. Because while I can use my shutdown time to write fun YA novels (& help out in the community), people who aren't as secure are about to lose health insurance.

Welp...guess I'm going back to work soon. Just getting to 25,000 words on my #NaNoWriMo draft so I have some wiggle room while I get used to commuting again (and catching up on 40+ days of emails). #AmWriting #AmQuerying #furlough

As someone with an allergy, I despise the "death by anaphylaxis" episode of every mystery show ever. My YA main character has a severe nut allergy like me but it's just part of her daily life and not used as a plot point. Hope some readers will relate! #YAmystery #amwriting #amquerying #nutallergy

I should also keep myself accountable for the challenge formerly known as NaNoWriMo. 16,107 words into the sequel for my YA forest fairy mystery! 🧚🔎📖 Using my furlough time wisely... #amwriting #queryingauthor #nanowrimo #YAmystery

#QuestPit #Q #YA #MY 🧚Myrtle Mustard, teenage forest fairy, loves magic, nature, her friends, and solving human murders. She finds creative ways to share her findings with human detectives without revealing that fairies exist. 🧚

I know my YA mystery series will find a home somewhere. Especially because my teenage detective just happens to be a four-inch-tall forest fairy. It might take a long time and a lot of rejection, but she's worth it!

Taking the energy from last night's election news and diving into my querying journey!
