In this work, we introduce an optimality-based eco-evolutionary model of carbon partitioning between root growth and exudation under nitrogen limitation. The model captures key trade-offs in plant nitrogen foraging strategies and aligns with observed belowground responses across soil N regimes.

Curious if you think the spatial patterns in hyphae networks somehow controls respiration rates?

My pick from the list

A novel organelle, the nitroplast discovered in the marine alga Braarudosphaera bigelowii. "this finding and related work hint at the possibility of future crops endowed with nitroplasts that would enable them to fertilize themselves."

Science’s 2024 Breakthrough of the Year is lenacapavir, an injectable drug that demonstrated remarkable success at preventing HIV infection with one shot every 6 months. The drug attaches to the lattice-like capsid proteins that shield the virus’s genetic material—a mechanism that could inspire other antivirals. Lenacapavir could help end the HIV/AIDS epidemic, but that will hinge on access for those who need it most.
