Robot Wars has been a very popular show for decades but lately (for military purposes I suspect) they have been investing in humanoid / android type robots. The Chinese are far ahead though …

Wynton Marsalis for jazz and classical. Anything from his catalog that he has composed as an homage to New Orleans musical and cultural history/heritage provides excellent material for teaching.

In the early 20th century, America had a “boy problem” involving crime, violence, vagrancy… that spread across the United States. Then policymakers stepped in with universal public schooling, Big Brothers (1904), the Federated Boys’ Clubs (1906), Boy Scouts (1910), Girl Scouts (1912) and 4-H (1912).

The reality with ‘right to work’ is that you keep your job at the whim of management, with little power to negotiate or bargain for better pay or conditions. It's freedom for corporations, not workers. America is such a dystopia. Where is the resistance? Why is everyone capitulating?

I live in a 'right to work' state, which sounds like it gives employees more freedom. Really, it just tips the scales in favor of employer. These laws make it easier for companies to offer low wages, skimp on benefits, and fire workers without cause — all while pretending it's about 'worker choice.

Student interest in the humanities has fluctuated over time, often influenced by economic conditions. For instance, interest surged after World War II but declined during the economic turmoil of the 1970s. This anti-intellectualism is cyclical.

When observing how the powerful behave these days. It's easy to feel disconnected and alienated. Sadly, the majority authorized the few to wield power, position, and influence in cruel ways that harm the disadvantaged and vulnerable. Humans are not as evolved as I once thought they were.

If a scientist were transported to medieval times, this is what kind of reaction they'd get. Similar to what is happening now with the NIH, the CDC, and NIOSH.

The cruelty is always the point. Conservative power players are more than willing to cast the US into a scientific dark age in their quest to shore up traditional worldviews, outmoded hierarchies, concentrated wealth to resegregate broad swaths of society & end the country’s intellectual potential.
The Trump administration’s bombastic attacks on the nation’s most prestigious universities have commanded the public’s attention all year long. Now congressional Republicans are poised to dramatically expand that onslaught. If you think the last few months have been bad for Harvard, brace yourself—the “big, beautiful bill” is coming, and with it, a new dimension of destruction.

Thank you Br.Dr. Homan. I wrote that reply before reading all of your brilliant well-written thread. I personally can’t wait to read your first book on this topic.

Can you discuss forms of peaceful resistance that are effective against state violence from the Catholic perspective please? I was reading The Crowd by LeBon earlier to understand how spontaneous protest can transform into social movements rather than chaos.
