@DrumMajorInst, our name comes from Dr. King’s final sermon, where he said he didn’t want to be remembered for awards but as a drum major for peace, justice, and love. As president of DMI, we're committed to pushing Dr. King's dream forward with that same purpose.

This work is not about collective guilt, it's about collective responsibility.

This coalition will not be built by chance, it must be created by choice and on purpose.

Choose to get involved and help bring the dream of Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King to life.

On this #MagnificentMonday of Thanksgiving week, think about how you can serve someone and leave them better than you found them. In this season of gratitude, pay it forward.

Women have fewer rights than just a few years ago.

DEI and affirmative action are under attack, and dark forces want to turn us around.

This won't stop our work. Our ancestors paved the way, we are their answered prayers and each of us is the dream of the dreamer.

On May 17, 1956, MLK delivered a sermon titled "The Death of Evil Upon the Seashore."

He tells the biblical story of the exodus from Egypt and compares the Israelites’ captivity with the plight of African Americans. Towards the end of his sermon, he gives us a word of hope. 🧵👇🏾

There are two kinds of people: thermometers and thermostats.

Thermometers record the temperature; they go along to get along.

But thermostats regulate it.

Strive to be the thermostat in your environment and set the tone for goodness, justice, and righteousness in our world.

I studied hate crimes and hate groups for about 10 years in my activism journey. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Hate begets hate...We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love."

How do we build the Beloved Community? It's all in the name: Be Love.

This week, choose to show love to another person. We live in a time where darkness and strife seem all too common. Let your love shine a light and encourage peace in others' spirits.

Principle of Nonviolence #5 is about resisting harm with a love that’s selfless, creative, and from the heart.

SCOTUS' decision to reject an appeal to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges is a win for equality everywhere.

Coretta Scott King said it best: homophobic attitudes must be rejected by all Americans who believe in a democracy.

Principle of Nonviolence #2 is focused on the reconcilation of people experiencing conflict with one another.

To build a Beloved Community, we must always seek understanding despite disagreements.

bell hooks said it best, you can't expect to experience love without conflict.

When I think about organizing a community and what it takes to achieve, I think about the work of Ella Baker.

On this #MagnificentMonday, I want you to think about all of the ways you can serve, and then do them.

We can't look to one politician or person to solve all of our problems, this vision of a Beloved Community requires all hands on deck.

Be clear on what’s at stake. The Supreme Court’s decisions impact the rights we fought hard to win, like the freedom to love freely. We’ve come too far to turn back now. Keep speaking up and protecting progress.

Every member of the human family is connected. Each of us is part of the whole, which affects the plight of us all. We're all called to live in a way that others are not harmed by our actions.

HISTORY ON REPEAT🔁: Much like the Shelby v. Holder decision in 2013, we're witnessing another huge attack on the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

We must do all that we can to raise our voices and protect our right to access the ballot.
