We must stay focused, stay vigilant, and refuse to be pulled into the politics of hate. Love, justice, and truth have always outlasted those who try to divide us. They will again.

Racism is not a strategy. Division is not leadership. And distraction will not silence the truth: our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard, every vote is protected, and every human being is treated with dignity.

Today, the Ku Klux Klan has not just rebranded—it has, in many ways, officially disrobed. The hatred is no longer hidden. It is spoken in broad daylight, broadcast to millions, and treated as politics as usual.

But we must not accept it as normal.

Today the ideology of white supremacy no longer marches with torches or hides behind hoods. It dresses itself in political power, coded language, and social media posts meant to normalize the unacceptable.

This is a tactic as old as the republic: divide the people and distract from the power grab.

When I worked at the National Anti-Klan Network, we had a saying: “They don’t all wear sheets.”

While our nation should be having a serious, urgent conversation about attempts to federalize control over voting and undermine the very foundation of our democracy, he chooses instead to inflame old hatreds and stir racial grievance.
