This illustration always fascinated & terrified me as a kid. A scene from Dante’s Divine Comedy. Canto XVII of Inferno. "New terror I conceived at the steep plunge." It took Gustave about 7 years to create all the illustrations for The Divine Comedy #GustaveDoré
