Someone on here compared AI produced material as "digital asbestos " which in a few decades' time we will have to work out how to eradicate from the fabric of research.
From my own academic research, even pre LLMs there was a huge danger of zombie factoids that begin in a respectable publication by mistake and then get reprinted for decades because no one is backtracing to the original source. Once bad info gets into the system it can take years to clear it out.
I've seen numerous examples of this in recent days - we're at a point where some reporters are using LLMs as a source and not even remotely properly factchecking, but also where LLM generated material is making its way into other material and being unknowingly reproduced by others.

The UK: we must reinvigorate our uncompetitive and slow growth economy!

Also the UK: time to censor the easiest general reference of archive of human knowledge, which is also free.
OSA is gonna make us lose access to fucking wikipedia

"Students like using AI because it’s an ever-patient tutor. No question is beneath it, no interaction is too long."[1]

And companies like using AI because it cannot unionise!

Just realized that @datarescueproject.org is four months old as of today. We shouldn't need to exist, but here we are. And we are SO very thankful for all of you and our volunteers. These data are our data. They are the people's data.

From day one, Israel's leaders and officials loudly broadcast their genocidal intent.

Western leaders and media outlets cannot say they did not know. Instead, they indulged and spread lies about what Israel was doing. And now they must suffer the consequences.

Netanyahu has declared Israel's intent to permanently occupy Gaza and drive its entire population into the south.

This is known as a 'concentration camp'. Gaza's surviving population will be left with a choice: leave, or die.

This is the 10th iteration of @uomlibrary.bsky.social 's "Open Knowledge in Higher Education". We're part of the PGCert in HE, and, when we started, it was unusual for a library to "own" and fully deliver a module on a non-library programme. I think we still stand out today for a few reasons...1/n
