Trans care is health care.
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Fun fact: The organization officially welcomes youth of all genders and has been "Scouting America" since 2025 for this reason.
Is it a 'masculine value' to melt down about some new fake shit every week?

I know this not quite what Benjamin meant about fascism as the aestheticization of politics, but it is the literal aestheticization of politics.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is seeking to humiliate an American hero.

Senator Kelly flew 39 combat missions during the Gulf War in 1991 and flew four space shuttle missions (commanding two of them).

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

One of my students told me today that she was just getting over the flu. Did you get your flu shot, I asked. No, she says, I've never had the flu, so I don't need the vaccine.

I gave the Influenza of 1918 lecture a few weeks ago, & I shared info re: campus flu clinic.

This is a premed. Sigh.

Very here for reading Derek Guy quoting Stuart Hall.
In my article, I quoted something from Stuart Hall's "Culture, Community, Nation," an essay first published in a 1993 issue of Cultural Studies. He writes:

"It should not be necessary to look, walk, feel, think, speak exactly like a paid-up member of the buttoned-up, stiff-upper-lipped, ...

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

How lovely to see a book come out that's co-authored by my good friend from grad school, Sam Close! My heart is always with the fan studies folks... never met one I didn't admire.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

Well shoot the day after a presentation on bad feedback styles, I remembered that two types of "bad" (red-lining to death and no feedback whatsoever) can be found in Beard and Ted's (respectively) feedback to Trent Crimm on his book manuscript.

I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire

One thing I noticed in the subsequent conversation: they're quite worried about the potential of LLMs to degrade their own literacy (information and otherwise). I've noticed similar in discussions of diminishing attention spans. It's a mistake to assume they're not thinking about it, too.
